AEW Forbidden Door is almost here, but some wrestlers still don’t know if they’re walking through it.
According to Fightful Select, several talents from AEW, NJPW, and CMLL said they were still in the dark about their Forbidden Door plans as of this week’s Dynamite. Some were not even sure whether they had a spot on the show.
“AEW Forbidden Door takes place next week, and a number of talent tell Fightful they still weren’t sure what they’re doing on the show as of this week’s Dynamite.”
That is a wild spot to be in with the pay-per-view coming up fast. Forbidden Door is built around multiple companies, travel, timing, politics, and dream matches, but according to the talent who spoke to Fightful, not everyone has been told where they fit. It was noted that some wrestlers said this is not unusual. They expect to find out their matches during the week of the event.
“Some talent have said this isn’t out of the ordinary, and they’ll find out their matches the week of the show.”
Still, that does not make it any less messy from the outside. If talent from three different promotions are waiting around for answers this close to the show, it means AEW is either keeping things locked down tight or still moving pieces around behind the scenes.
One name in the middle of that uncertainty is Gabe Kidd. NJPW expected him to play a big role at Forbidden Door before an injury wrecked earlier plans. Kidd recently returned to New Japan and declared for the G1, but it wasl noted there has been no confirmation on whether he is now planned for Forbidden Door.
“One talent that NJPW expected to be a huge part of Forbidden Door this year was Gabe Kidd.”
“Sources in AEW we spoke to claimed that things were being held close to the vest for the show.”
That could mean surprises are coming. It could also mean talent are stuck waiting until the last minute to find out if they are working one of AEW’s biggest crossover shows of the year. Either way, Forbidden Door is days away, and some wrestlers are still waiting for the call.
Do you think AEW is keeping Forbidden Door plans secret for big surprises, or is this too close to showtime for talent to still be in the dark? Let us know in the comments below.
