AEW apparently isn’t sticking with its original plan for the Trios Championship at All In. What was shaping up to be a three-team match is now getting bigger, with additional teams being brought into the picture.
Speaking during a Self Made Session, Self Made Pro revealed that the original plan was a three-way involving The Demand, Swerve Strickland & The New Day, and Hangman Page, Brody King & Bandido. That plan has now changed.
“Those are going to be your 10 matches. So, hey, as you know, I told you the original plan for the trios title was going to be a three-way with The Demand, Swerve and The New Day, and Hangman Page, Brody King and Bandido. I was told over the weekend that it is changing, and they’re adding teams to it.”
Exactly what the new match looks like hasn’t been settled publicly yet, but Self Made said several different ideas have been floated as AEW figures out the pivot. One of those possibilities is turning the whole thing into some form of Casino Trios match.
“There’s a lot of different things that have been floated as to what the pivot’s going to be. Some kind of Casino Trios situation there.”
Self Made acknowledged that another Casino-style match on the card could feel repetitive, but there is some precedent for AEW doubling up on the concept. All In featured two Casino Gauntlet matches last year, since there won’t be a women’s version this time around.
“That’d be very redundant. But at the same time, they did do two Casino Gauntlets last year. So I think in their mind they’re like, since we’re not doing a women’s one this year, the second Casino thing could just be a Trios one.”
The biggest change right now is pretty simple: the three-way that had been planned apparently isn’t happening in that form anymore. AEW wants more teams involved, and a Casino-style setup is at least one idea being considered to make that happen.
Bottom line: with All In literally just days away, it now comes down to which teams AEW adds and whether the Casino Trios idea actually makes the final card.
