AEW introduced a brand-new match concept during the October 3, 2026 episode of AEW Collision, announcing that the Clockwork Carnage match will take place at WrestleDream with the AEW World Championship at stake.
The match will feature eight wrestlers and play out across two stages. Two competitors will start the match after being selected at random, with another randomly selected wrestler entering every three minutes.
During that opening stage, any wrestler who gets pinned or submits is immediately eliminated. Once the eighth and final competitor enters, everybody still alive in the match moves into a 15-minute scoring period.
That is where things really change. Every pinfall or submission during those final 15 minutes counts as one fall, and when time expires, the wrestler with the most falls wins the match and the AEW World Championship.
AEW did not reveal the eight participants during the announcement, leaving one of WrestleDream’s biggest matches without a confirmed field for now. The pay-per-view takes place in two weeks and will air live at 8 PM ET on HBO Max.
AEW is clearly trying something different with Clockwork Carnage, combining staggered entrances, eliminations and an Iron Man-style scoring period into one match with the company’s biggest championship on the line.
