AEW may have quietly tipped its hand on a huge Trios Championship match for All Out. Nothing has been officially confirmed, but everything that went down on Dynamite sure looked like three different teams being pushed toward the same collision.
AEW World Trios Champions New Level and Swerve Strickland defeated The Conglomeration before Ricochet and The Gates of Agony entered the picture. That brought Hangman Page, Brody King and Bandido into the situation, leaving all three sides staring each other down. It was the kind of ending that immediately looked like it could be setting up something bigger.
During the September 10 edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed where the angle appeared to be going. Meltzer’s immediate reaction was that AEW could be building a three-way match.
“I think a three way.”
Alvarez agreed that the direction seemed pretty obvious from what AEW put on television, and Meltzer stressed that this was simply what the booking looked like it was setting up for the pay-per-view.
“Three ways at the pay-per-view. That’s what it looks like.”
There was another piece of the puzzle later in Dynamite. Brody King confronted Hangman Page about why he had returned, pointing out that Hangman clearly hadn’t come back specifically to chase the Trios Titles.
Hangman admitted that was true, but also made it clear he wanted to continue teaming with Brody and Bandido. That seemingly kept the trio together and gave them a reason to pursue New Level and Swerve. Meltzer pointed directly to that segment when explaining his theory.
“Because later in the show, you know, they basically — Brody King asked Hangman, you know, and basically said, ‘I know you didn’t come back here for the Trios Title.’ And he said, ‘Yeah, I didn’t.’ But, you know, ‘I’m with you guys.’ And so they said that they’re together and they want the title.”
With Hangman, Brody and Bandido staying together, Ricochet and The Gates of Agony targeting the champions, and New Level and Swerve already holding the gold, Meltzer said the pieces appear to be sitting there for a three-team fight.
“So looks like a three way. It’s an awesome match on paper.”
Meltzer also liked the potential mix of talent involved, believing all three teams would be capable of delivering if AEW actually pulls the trigger. He specifically pointed to New Level working with Hangman, Brody and Bandido, while also noting the consistency of Ricochet and The Gates of Agony.
“I think that, you know, that the New Level will, you know, in there with Hangman, Brody and Bandido, they’re gonna work really hard, and, you know, Ricochet and the Gates, those guys always work hard.”
For now, that three-way match is still just a read of where AEW appears to be going rather than an announced All Out match. The company put all three teams in the same orbit on Dynamite, though, and Hangman confirming he wants to stay with Brody and Bandido makes the Trios Title direction much harder to ignore.
AEW may not have made the match official yet, but it certainly looks like New Level and Swerve could have more than one team coming for their gold at All Out.
