Adam Copeland finally checked off one of the biggest items on his wrestling bucket list, and the moment clearly hit him hard. The AEW star made his first-ever appearance inside Arena Mexico during the August 5 episode of AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam Mexico, ending a 34-year wait to compete inside the legendary venue.
Copeland worked the opening match of the night before sharing an emotional message on Instagram. He said stepping inside what he called “The Wrestling Cathedral” was everything he hoped it would be.
“What. A. Night. Finally, finally after 34 years, I was privileged to step into The Wrestling Cathedral. Arena Mexico. And man, Mexico, you did not disappoint.”
The former WWE star had not wrestled in Mexico in 18 years, making the Arena Mexico appearance even more personal. Copeland said the reaction from the crowd was so powerful that he could physically feel it during his entrance.
“I felt the vibrations in my bones when I came out. It had been 18 years since I last performed in Mexico, and to finally do it in those hallowed halls was the perfect way to cap off my love affair with Lucha Libre and Mexico.”
Copeland made it clear that this was not just another match on the schedule. After spending years wanting to compete inside Arena Mexico, he said the memory will stay with him forever.
“I’ll take last night to the grave with me. Gracias, Mexico.”
Copeland had already named wrestling inside Arena Mexico as one of the final items on his career bucket list. Now that goal is complete, his attention turns to AEW All In London, where he and Christian Cage will defend the AEW World Tag Team Championships against The Young Bucks at Wembley Stadium.
Arena Mexico gave Copeland the kind of moment he had been chasing for decades. With his career winding down, he is making sure every remaining milestone counts.
