Jimmy Jacobs parted ways with AEW back in October 2024 and since then, he’s been busy on the indies. However, fans have been wondering if he will ever return to AEW and he has now addressed the same.

While speaking on Cafe de Renee, Jimmy Jacobs was asked about a possible return to AEW. He said that when he’s ready to get back into things, he hopes the right opportunity comes along. But if it doesn’t, he’s at peace with that as well. There was a time he believed wrestling would be a lifelong commitment, but now he’s comfortable stepping away if that’s what life calls for.

Jacobs made it clear that it has to be the right fit. He’s no longer willing to give his entire life to wrestling. Being on call around the clock and constantly traveling just isn’t something he can do anymore. At one point, he thought he had the energy for it, but working in AEW showed him that he no longer does.

“Hopefully, when I’m ready to get back on the horse, the right opportunity will present itself. And if not, I’m at the point in my life where that’s okay too. I used to think I had to be in wrestling my whole life, but now it’s like—whatever it is, I’m okay with it.

But again, I just want it to fit. I can’t give my life to wrestling ever again. I can’t be on call 24/7. I can’t be on the road all the f***ing time. I just don’t have it in me. I thought I did, and then with AEW I was like, ‘No, I don’t actually have it in me anymore to do this.'”

Looking back at his time in AEW, Jacobs doesn’t feel like he lived up to his full potential. He doesn’t believe he contributed in the way he wanted to. Some people assumed he had more creative influence than he actually did, and he wishes that had been true.

Jacobs said he would have liked to be more involved creatively, but that just didn’t happen. It made him question whether he still had what it takes. He admits he didn’t give Tony Khan everything he could have.

Moving forward, Jacob knows that whatever role he takes on, he needs to be able to fully commit. And in order to do that, he has to make sure he’s taking care of his own well-being first.

“I don’t feel like I gave myself at the level I should have. I don’t think I was valuable to my potential. I wasn’t contributing like I would’ve liked to at AEW. You know, people were critical of me being there—they thought I had more of a hand in things than I actually did. I wish I had. I wish I had been more creatively involved, but I just wasn’t.

I was like, ‘Do I not have this in me anymore? What’s going on?’ I don’t feel like I gave Tony everything I could. So yeah, whatever I do next, I need to be able to show up for it. And I can’t show up fully if I don’t take care of what’s going on inside.”

The former Ring of Honor creative mind originally joined AEW in June 2023 as a key writer but his run clearly didn’t last that long. Regardless, we’ll have to see if Jacobs returns to AEW one day, as there’s no guarantee about that right now.
