The WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event was headlined by El Hijo del Vikingo defending his AAA Mega Title against Chad Gable. Before the match, WWE played a video package but it appears they intentionally hid Alberto Del Rio as much as possible.
Ahead of the main event match, WWE aired a video package that showed Vikingo beating Alberto Del Rio to become the AAA Mega Champion during last week’s event. However, WWE actually intentionally blocked Del Rio’s face from every clip in which Vikingo pinned him. He was also not acknowledged during the commentary before the match.
As for El Hijo del Vikingo, he successfully retained the AAA Mega Championship against Chad Gable to close the show, in a match that many fans are already calling a Match of the Year contender.
However, WWE hiding Del Rio comes after Dave Meltzer previously reported that people who are friendly with Alberto Del Rio stated that his relationship with WWE is fine and he’s expected to return to WWE eventually, but just not yet.
While WWE hiding Alberto Del Rio like this certainly made it evident they don’t want anything to do with him right now, things could change later. Therefore, we’ll have to see what WWE will do with Del Rio in the end.
Do you think WWE was right to hide Alberto Del Rio from the broadcast? Should he be given another chance, or should the company keep their distance?
