WWE and AAA’s joint Worlds Collide event is already stacked, but the mystery around who’s calling the action just got even more interesting.
According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, legendary announcer Mike Tenay was discussed for the event—but he’s not expected to appear.
Tenay famously got his start calling the original When Worlds Collide back in 1994, so his name coming up makes sense. Dave Meltzer reported the details in the Observer:
“We do know there had been discussion of Mike Tenay regarding announcing the show–he started his announcing career doing When Worlds Collide in 1994, but I can’t confirm if he was contacted. But as best as I can tell, he’s not at this point scheduled to do the show.”
While there’s no confirmation that Tenay was officially approached, the fact he was in the conversation adds weight to how seriously WWE and AAA are treating the broadcast. It also fuels speculation that the show could still feature some kind of surprise or homage to Tenay’s contributions. Meltzer added that other names linked to AAA commentary won’t be involved either:
“The former AAA English language announcers, Joe Dombrowski and Larry Dallas, are also not doing the show.”
The commentary team for Worlds Collide is still being kept under wraps, with WWE yet to confirm any names. What is confirmed, however, is that Lilian Garcia will return to handle in-ring announcing duties. She shared the news with fans on social media:
“It is an honor to make history with them as the Ring Announcer for this spectacular event!”
Garcia’s return adds nostalgia, but Tenay’s absence—despite being part of the conversation—will stand out to fans of the original 1994 classic.
