AEW Dynamite Results (4/16/2025): Live Match Updates and Highlights

The show opens up with Excalibur and Tony Schiavone welcoming us and running down the card for tonight’s Dynamite.

Excalibur then informs us that The Death Riders have attacked HOOK prior to Dynamite and sent him to the hospital and that he is now out of the World Trios Title Match. We are also told that Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata will still fight for the titles come hell or high water. Excalibur then says Taz is gone to be with his son and Tony Schiavone says it was a revolting attack and hope HOOK is back in action soon.

Mercedes Moné then makes her way down to the ring for the first match of the night and Athena follows.

Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament Semifinal Match: AEW TBS Champion “The CEO” Mercedes Moné vs. ROH Women’s World Champion “The Fallen Goddess” Athena

The match starts off with both women locking up. Both women then make their way up the entrance ramp and get into a verbal confrontation with one another before Moné cinches in a waist lock on Athena back down the entrance ramp and keeps it locked in as they re-enter the ring. Moné and Athena then continue going back and forth locking one another in submission holds, but Moné hits a meteora on Athena in the corner. Moné then cinches in a crossface on Athena.

Athena then looks to hit a piledriver on Moné. Moné then escapes and reverses it into a Lung Blower on Athena and follows it up with a Tornado DDT. Moné then hits The Three Amigos on Athena, but Athena hits a series of powerbombs on Moné. Moné then sends Athena crashing out of the ring and both women brawl on the ring apron before Athena hits a scoop powerslam on Moné.

Athena then locks in a cross face on Moné, but Moné sends Athena crashing into the barricade on the outside. Athena then dropkicks Moné into the barricade and sends her back inside the ring and sets up for the O-Face. Moné then counters into a roll up for the win.

After the match, Moné spots Toni Storm and Luther applauding in the balcony section of the arena.

We then head to the back, where we see Renee Paquette chatting with “Hangman” Adam Page. The Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada then approach Page, telling him that they think they can recruit The Death Riders to their side. Okada then asks him why he is so angry and tells him to smile more. After Hangman walks away disgusted, Okada calls him a b***h. Hangman then comes charging back, but Okada just tells him to smile and Page rolls his eyes and leaves.

Tuukka Rask from the Boston Bruins is then shown on stage with the NHL Stanley Cup.

Hangman Page then makes his way down to the ring for the next match of the night as he will face a wild card in a Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Quarterfinal Match. Josh Alexander then makes his way down to the ring.

Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Quarterfinal Match: “Hangman” Adam Page vs. “The Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander

The match starts off with both men locking up and exchanging forearms. Page then hits a Fallaway Slam on Alexander and hits a rolling forearm on him, then nails a clothesline on him flying off the middle rope. Page then turns Alexander inside out with a clothesline. Both men then teeter on the ring apron, but Page sends Alexander crashing onto it with a back body drop. Page then hits a moonsault off the top rope on Alexander, then sends Alexander crashing into the mat with a sit-out powerbomb and goes for a pin. Alexander then kicks out.

Alexander then sends Page crashing into the mat off his shoulders, then cinches in an Ankle Lock on Page. Page then crawls over to the bottom rope to escape, then follows it up with a Dead Eye and goes for a pin. Alexander then kicks out and hits a crossbody on Page through the bottom rope and out of the ring. Alexander then sends Page back inside, then looks to cinch in the Ankle Lock on Page once again. Page then rolls up Alexander for the win.

After the match, Kyle Fletcher and Don Callis make their way down to the ring. Fletcher and Page then brawl on the entrance ramp as Callis whispers something to Alexander. Page then sets up for the Buckshot Lariat, but Alexander attacks him from behind and heads to the back. Fletcher then sends Page crashing into the mat with a Brainbuster.

We then head to the back with The Patriarchy. Nick Wayne talks about The Patriarchy collapsing without a father figure. Christian Cage then shows up and brings up Nick Wayne saying he knew why Christian executed his contract. Wayne then says he thinks he didn’t stick to the plan because he couldn’t stand the idea that Cope would be World Champion before him. Christian then says that’s an assumption and it makes an a** out of him. Christian then says he has been impressed by the fire Nick Wayne has shown recently and took it upon himself to procure him a spot in the NJPW Battle of the Super Juniors tournament. Christian then says Wayne has a match with Komander for the ROH World TV Title on Thursday’s Collision that he needs to win by himself. Christian then leaves with Kip and tells Wayne to follow along.

We then get a video package recapping the recent heel turn by FTR. Tony Schiavone says they have been suspended for a week and docked a week’s pay for their actions.

The Gates of Agony then make their way down to the ring for the next match of the night and The Hurt Syndicate follow.

AEW World Tag Team Championship Match: The Hurt Syndicate (“The All Mighty” Bobby Lashley and “The Standard of Excellence” Shelton Benjamin) vs. The Gates Of Agony (Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun)

The match starts off with Toa Liona attacking Shelton Benjamin from behind. Liona then hits a chop on Benjamin. Benjamin then hits a DDT on Liona, then tags in Bishop Kaun. Kaun and Liona then double team on Benjamin in the corner, but Benjamin hits a flatliner on Kaun and follows it up with a suplex.

Liona then tags in and delivers some back elbows on Benjamin. Liona then follows it up with a Samoan Drop and delivers some clotheslines on Lashley in the corner, but Lashley cinches in The Hurt Lock on Liona. Kaun then comes to Liona’s aid, but Liona sends Lashley crashing into the barricade. Kaun then dropkicks Benjamin in the corner, but Benjamin responds with a couple of German suplexes on Kaun. Lashley then spears Liona on the outside and Benjamin tags in Lashley. Lashley then hits a spear on Kaun for the win.

After the match, MJF makes his way out and makes his case once again as to why he should join The Hurt Syndicate. MJF says he wouldn’t be bringing his own talent to the group, but other talent as well. Several women then make their way down to the ring to join MJF and The Hurt Syndicate and Benjamin says he needs a little more time indicating that he wants MJF’s watch. MJF then agrees to give it to him as long as he agrees to let him in The Hurt Syndicate, but Benjamin still decides not to. MJF still gives Benjamin his watch despite him saying no as a token of goodwill, then tells Lashley that he is known for getting what he wants and that is because he is MJF and he is better than you and you know it. MVP then calms down Lashley and they head to the back with the women.

We then head to the back, where The Hurt Syndicate is being interviewed. Lashley tells MVP he doesn’t trust MJF. MVP then explains that he understands MJF is annoying, but business wise they can use him to get what they want. Lashley then says the minute MJF gets out of line they would hurt him. They then call the ladies back and walks off with them.

Will Ospreay then makes his way down to the ring for the next match of the night and Konosuke Takeshita follows.

Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Semifinal Match: Don Callis Family’s “The Alpha” Konosuke Takeshita vs. “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay

The match starts off with both men feeling each other out and locking up. Ospreay then hits a chop on Takeshita and follows it up with a kick on his face and a hurricanrana. Takeshita then hits a flying clothesline on Ospreay and sends him crashing into the mat with an F5 and dropkicks him out of the way. Takeshita then flies over the top rope to land on Ospreay on the outside.

Ospreay then hits a springboard flipping kick on Takeshita and flies off the top rope to nail him with a forearm strike. Takeshita then nails Ospreay with a clothesline and follows it up with a suplex. Ospreay then hits a mid-air Stunner on Takeshita off the middle rope, then follows it up with a Os-Cutter on the entrance ramp and a Phoenix Splash back in the ring. Ospreay then looks to hit another Os-Cutter, but Takeshita avoids it. Ospreay then hits a second Os-Cutter on Takeshita, but Takeshita rolls through with a German suplex on Ospreay and pins him. Ospreay then kicks out.

Ospreay then nails Takeshita with a couple of boots and follows it up with a trio of superkicks, then sets up for a Hidden Blade. Takeshita then collapses and the referee checks on him, but Takeshita recovers and nails Ospreay with a forearm. Takeshita then follows it up with a Blue Thunder Bomb and goes for a pin, but Ospreay kicks out.

Ospreay then sets up for the Os-Cutter, but Takeshita avoids it. Ospreay then nails him with The Hidden Blade, then sends him crashing into the mat with a belly to back piledriver and a German suplex. Takeshita then hits an elbow on Ospreay and both men teeter on the ropes before Takeshita hits a Takeshita Line on Ospreay off the top rope. Ospreay then. responds with a Hidden Blade and goes for a pin, but Takeshita kicks out. Ospreay then hits a Styles Clash on Takeshita and pins him once again, but Takeshita kicks out. Ospreay then hits a Storm Breaker on Takeshita for the win.

After the match, Ospreay celebrates his win and he awaits the winner of Kyle Fletcher vs. Hangman Page in the other semifinal match.

The Death Riders then make their way down to the ring for the main event of the night and The Opps and Powerhouse Hobbs follow.

AEW World Trios Championship Match: The Death Riders (AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta) vs. The Opps (Samoa Joe and “The Wrestler” Katsuyori Shibata) and Powerhouse Hobbs

The match starts off with all six men begin brawling with one another. Hobbs then delivers some clotheslines on Wheeler Yuta in the corner, but Jon Moxley nails Hobbs from behind. Samoa Joe then tags in and delivers some right hands on Yuta, then tags in Katsuyori Shibata. Shibata then delivers some chops on Yuta, then knocks Moxley off the apron. Claudio Castagnoli then sends Shibata crashing into the barricade. Moxley then tags in and wears down Shibata, then tags in Castagnoli. Castagnoli then nails Shibata with a clothesline.

Shafir then hits a chop block on Hobbs. Castagnoli then hits a Stunner on Shibata, but Shibata delivers some strikes on Castagnoli. Yuta and Joe then tag in and Joe hits an Atomic Drop on Yuta. Joe then hits a senton and a powerslam on Yuta as Moxley grabs a chair from under the ring.

Willow Nightingale then makes her way down to the ring and grabs the chair from him. Castagnoli then hits a pop-up uppercut on Joe, but Yuta nails him with a spinebuster. Joe then nails Moxley with a clothesline, but The Young Bucks make their way out to ringside and Matt Jackson grabs a chair of his own. Swerve Strickland then grabs it from him and hits a Swerve Stomp off the barricade on The Young Bucks, then continues to brawl with them. Shibata then puts Castagnoli to sleep on the entrance ramp and hits a kick on his chest and Hobbs sends Yuta crashing on top of the announce desk. Shafir then hits Hobbs with a chair, but Nightingale runs her over with a clothesline. Moxley then looks to hit a Death Rider on Joe, but Joe cinches in the Coquina Clutch on Moxley and Moxley passes out.

The winners and new AEW World Trios Champions, The Opps (Samoa Joe and “The Wrestler” Katsuyori Shibata) and Powerhouse Hobbs!

After the match, several members of the AEW roster join The Opps in the ring and celebrate their win with champagne as the show comes to a close.
