Kevin Owens truly lived his dream when he got to face off against Steve Austin at WrestleMania 38, which was the first time Austin wrestled a match in 19 years. With that said, it appears Owens’ earlobe exploded after getting stiff shots from Steve Austin.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Kevin Owens was asked if Steve Austin was stiff with him during their match at WrestleMania 38. Kevin Owens recalled that after the match, his earlobe was extremely swollen from Austin’s punches.
Back at his hotel, he squeezed it and it splattered against the mirror. Owens said Austin kept mentioning that he didn’t get any receipts, but Owens didn’t feel the need to respond. Despite how it looked, the punches didn’t feel worse than anything he had experienced before.
Owens pointed out that it just showed how much of a pro Austin is, similar to Bret Hart, who was known for working safely in the ring. Owens said Austin took pride in not hurting his opponents, and even though Austin felt like he was hitting hard that night, Owens didn’t think it was any rougher than what he’s dealt with from others.
“Yeah. Actually the night of the match, when I go back to my hotel my earlobe was swollen like this big from his punches. I squeezed and it just splattered and exploded against the mirror. He kept saying, You didn’t give me any receipts. What am I gonna do? But honestly, in that moment too, I felt the punches but they weren’t any worse than anything I felt before. But to him, that shows how much of a pro he is. Bret has always prided himself on how he’s never hurt anyone. You could barely feel him in the ring and stuff, and that’s amazing. I think Steve was the same way, so he prided himself on not killing people, and that night he knew he was killing me. But to me, it was not any worse than other guys.”
Steve Austin also wanted more time for his WrestleMania 38 match with Kevin Owens. Nevertheless, Austin’s match with Owens will forever go down in history as one of the best matches in recent memory and Owens wouldn’t change a thing about it, no matter what.
