AEW Dynamite Results (4/9/2025): Live Match Updates and Highlights

The show opens up with Excalibur welcoming us and he is joined by Tony Schiavone and Taz. Commentary then sends us to The Death Riders backstage as AEW World Champion Jon Moxley says this is the single greatest roster of pure talent ever assembled in AEW so why can’t anyone get their act together when it counts. Moxley then says they come with their talent yet roll back down the hill, not addressing the real problem and they don’t want it. Moxley then says The Death Riders will scorch the Earth with anyone who calls themselves a contender before they give an inch. Moxley then says The Young Bucks have returned, but he doesn’t recognize them anymore as they have stumbled upon a board and they don’t know what game it is. Moxley then says they better be real if he was them before making any moves.

Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir then make their way down to the ring through the crowd for the first match of the night and Katsuyori Shibata follows.

The match starts off with both men wasting no time in going after each other. Both men then lock up. Both men then take turns wearing each other with submission holds, then deliver some chops on one another. Moxley then hits a boot on the side of Shibata’s face, but Shibata sends Moxley crashing into the mat with a driver and wears him down with a submission hold. Shibata then hits a boot on Moxley and delivers some forearms on him, then follows it up with a dropkick. Moxley then nails Shibata with a clothesline, then cinches in a Bulldog Choke on him and Shibata passes out.

The winner of the Non-Title Match, The Death Riders’ AEW World Champion Jon Moxley!

After the match, The Young Bucks’ music hits and they make their way down to the ring. Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson stare down Marina Shafir and Jon Moxley in the ring. Moxley and Shafir then leave ringside as Nicholas Jackson address the question as to why he and Matthew cost Swerve Strickland the AEW World Championship. Nicholas says they did it for “Hangman” Adam Page and it was what he wanted all along since he didn’t want Strickland to be the AEW World Champion. Nicholas then says he and Matthew don’t forget who their friends are.

Matthew then says what he and Nicholas did was a peace offering to The Death Riders and while they were sitting at home, they realized how much they had in common with The Death Riders due to their shared goals. Matthew then tells The Death Riders to imagine if they joined forces with him and invites Moxley to come back out to ringside.

Kenny Omega’s music then hits and he makes his way out. Omega says The Young Bucks forgot about him in the conversation about friends and he never forgot and forgave The Young Bucks. Omega then says when he returned he said he would do what he had to for his legacy and the sake of AEW. Omega then says he used to have a friend in high school with two yappy dogs and his friend never cared when the dogs would take a dookie on the floor when he was over. Omega then says as the dookie piled up he had to tell his friend they should hang out at his place and that same sentiment applies to The Young Bucks. Omega then says everyone knows how Matthew and Nicholas live and operate with the money they have and the time off that The Young Bucks have has done them well. Omega then proposes cutting out the middle man and fighting with The Young Bucks, then looks to get in the ring with them.

Kazuchika Okada’s music then hits and he makes his way out. Okada sides with The Young Bucks, but Swerve Strickland’s music hits and he slides in the ring with a chair in hand. The Young Bucks and Okada then retreat, with Omega and Strickland staring each other down before Omega heads to the back. Strickland then looks to speak, but PAC blindsides him from behind. Commentary then wonders if this will lead to their scheduled match.

Will Ospreay then says he’s going to Disneyworld, while Mike Bailey says he will buy shoes, Kevin Knight then says will go to Magic City and Mark Briscoe says he will diversify his portfolio as they all get amped up.

We then get a video package on the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament. We are told Billie Starkz vs. Jamie Hayter as well as Athena vs. Harley Cameron will take place on Collision this week. Mercedes Moné will face the winner of Athena and Cameron next week on Dynamite.

We then head to the back, where Renee Paquette catches up to “Hangman” Adam Page, but before she could ask him about his Owen Hart Tournament match next week against a Wild Card he just ignores her. Page then storms into Swerve Strickland’s locker room and screams at Prince Nana, asking where Strickland is at. Page then tells Nana to sit down and listen. Page then says he will make something clear as at Dynasty he was not trying to help Swerve. Page then says next week he starts the Owen and if Strickland intervenes he will pick up with him where he left off. Page then looks to walk away, but Nana stops him and tries to apologize for what they did a year ago and Page quickly cuts him off telling him not to say another word. Page then says you don’t get to say that. Page then storms out.

Ricochet, Lio Rush, Action Andretti and The Beast Mortos then make their way down to the ring for the next match of the night and “Speedball” Mike Bailey, “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay, Mark Briscoe and “The Jet” Kevin Knight follow.

We then get video footage from this past Sunday’s AEW Dynasty PPV of FTR’s heinous actions against “The Rated R Superstar” Cope and Cope being stretchered out. Commentary questions if we will ever see Cope again in AEW as the injuries he sustained on Sunday have ruled him out indefinitely. Tony Schiavone then says he has seen some low, disgusting acts over his wrestling career, but what FTR did takes the cake and Dax Harwood’s daughter would be ashamed of her father.

The Hurt Syndicate (AEW World Tag Team Champions “The All Mighty” Bobby Lashley and “The Standard of Excellence” Shelton Benjamin and MVP) then make their way down to the ring. MVP starts off by handing Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin a bottle each and proposes a toast for another successful defense of the AEW World Tag Team Championship, but MJF’s music hits and he makes his way down to the ring.

MJF stands next to Benjamin and acts like he is part of The Hurt Syndicate as Lashley glares at him. Lashley says this couldn’t have come at a better time considering Tony Khan wanted MJF to participate in the 2025 Men’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament. Lashley then says MJF gets to cut the line now that he is part of The Hurt Syndicate in order to get the AEW World Championship back and now that he helped The Hurt Syndicate retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship, they get to help him. Lashley then tells MJF to shut up and says everyone saw what he did last weekend when he was the one to cut Big Bill in half and get the job done. Lashley and MJF then begin to argue, but MVP and Benjamin break things up. MVP then says if MJF wants to join The Hurt Syndicate, then he needs to get three thumbs up. MVP gives his thumbs up, but Benjamin puts his thumbs down. Lashley then hugs his tag partner as they take their tag titles and leave. MVP then gives a shrug to MJF and MJF is left alone, looking frustrated and shoving the camera out of his face.

We then head to the back, where Renee Paquette is interviewing Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford. Paquette asks how they are doing following Dynasty. Ford says that was a taste of defeat, but it changes nothing as everything Bayne has been through isn’t erased just because Storm survived. Ford then says Bayne will be at Collision and doesn’t care who or how many. Bayne then says she will make you bow down.

The brackets for the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament are then shown. AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm then makes her way down to the ring for the next match of the night with Luther. Thunder Rosa then makes her way down to the ring and Kris Statlander follows.

Rosa then hits a hurricanrana on Statlander and hits a suplex on her. Rosa then wears Statlander down with a submission hold, but Statlander hits Rosa with a sit-out powerbomb. Rosa then hits a Canadian Destroyer on Statlander, then follows it up with a dropkick on her and goes for a pin. Statlander then kicks out. The winner of Harley Cameron vs. Athena will face Mercedes Moné in the next round on the other side of the bracket.

We then head to the back, where Don Callis cuts a promo while Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita stands by. Callis then says Fletcher and Takeshita have proven that being in the faction means it’s straight to the top.

New TNT Champion Adam Copeland then cuts a backstage promo with Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly. Strong says it’s about time that he and O’Reilly have their moment. Cole then says they will. Cole then speaks about how he has been through hell and back over the last two years. Cole then says it’s just the start for him, O’Reilly and Strong. Jericho then says he hoped Keith and Bill became the AEW World Tag Team Champions at Dynasty. Bill then stops Jericho and says Jericho has every right to be angry as he is too. Bill then says he has been getting real angry as of late and Jericho is one of the greatest of all time and a decorated performer. Bill then says he decided to join Jericho for that reason, but he didn’t sign up to be Jericho’s punching bag when things go wrong. Bill then says Jericho is welcome to teach Keith and him something, but not to berate them publicly as he will leave the ring alongside Keith.

Jericho then asks Keith if he feels the same way and says he didn’t bring either man out to the ring to berate them. Jericho then says he believes in Bill and Keith and he cares about both of them and handpicked them to stand by him. Jericho then says Bill and Keith have potential to be future World Champions and their victories and failures are also his victories and failures. Jericho then says Bill wasn’t there for him in his match at Dynasty and some might say it was his fault he lost the title, but he doesn’t believe that at all. Jericho then says he’s not angry, just disappointed. Jericho then repeats that he is not angry, just disappointed as he smashes the television in the ring. Jericho then says until Bill and Keith make a change, it’s best that he leaves. Jericho then leaves by himself and the fans sang “Hey Hey Hey Goodbye”.

We then get video footage of the returning 5 Tool Player Anthony Bowens answering Max Caster’s Open Challenge during Dynasty Zero Hour.

We then head to the back, where Alicia Atout is interviewing The Hurt Syndicate. Atout asks where things go from here with MJF. Lashley says MJF is not to be trusted and he doesn’t like MJF. Lashley then says they don’t need him. Benjamin then says they don’t need anyone, but little George Costanza is kind of funny. Lashley then walks away annoyed before there was a knock on the door and MJF walks in. MJF tells Atout this is an AB conversation and to C your skank ass out of here. MJF then slaps her on the ass and says he will see her around. MJF then asks MVP if he is a b***h to him and why he keeps getting treated like a b***h. MVP then says they know exactly who MJF is, but they are in a business and as a consumer, you find out what they want and you give it to them. MVP the walks out and MJF is left taking that info in.

Chris Jericho is then shown walking out of the building. Jericho stops and uses his baseball bat to strike a tray with soda on it. Jericho then gets in the passenger seat of a black SUV with AEW plates and it drives away.
