Marc Mero is getting real about his past with Sable—and how her time in WWE may have derailed one of the biggest opportunities of his wrestling career.
The former WWE Intercontinental Champion recently sat down with Cultaholic Wrestling’s Desert Island Graps and was asked about where things stand with his ex-wife Sable, who is now married to WWE legend Brock Lesnar. Mero didn’t dodge the question.
“We have our own lives, you know? And I couldn’t be happier for her. I even said in my book: If there’s anything I could say to her, just, is thank you,” Mero said.
Sable and Mero met in 1993 and tied the knot a year later. But after over a decade of marriage, they divorced in 2004. Sable would later marry Lesnar in 2006. While the timeline raised some eyebrows—especially since Sable reportedly met Lesnar before finalizing her split from Mero—the former WCW star seems content to keep the past in the past.
Still, Mero didn’t hold back when reflecting on a moment that stung professionally. He recalled how a single powerbomb from Sable might have ruined a major storyline with none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin.
“Little did I know that was gonna take me right out of my feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin,” Mero revealed. “Because Steve’s mentality was if a girl can do that to him, how is he gonna stand a chance with me?”
At the time, a feud with Stone Cold was considered career gold. But Mero claims that bump from Sable—meant to entertain—ultimately hurt his credibility in the eyes of The Rattlesnake himself.
While Mero never rose to the heights of other superstars during the Attitude Era, he did capture the Intercontinental Championship during his WWE run. Sable, meanwhile, only won the WWF Women’s Championship once before stepping away from the spotlight and settling down with Lesnar.
