Eva Marie has always been a controversial figure in WWE, with many fans not wanting to see her on television. This was especially true during her return in 2021, which sparked a lot of backlash. However, it appears that WWE made significant changes to their original plans for her during that run.

While speaking to Ring the Belle, Eva Marie revealed that her 2021 WWE return was originally planned to be very different from what ultimately happened. She explained that the storyline was supposed to last much longer and focus on a partnership where she would act as a mentor.

The idea was for her and Piper Niven to be positioned against everyone else, with her playing a condescending but influential role. This dynamic would eventually lead to a major moment where her protégé would stand up to her, creating a big payoff for the audience.

“When I was coming back, that storyline was totally different. You know, that’s just kind of how things go. Yes, but I definitely wasn’t supposed to—one, have it end that quickly, and two, it was supposed to be me and her against everybody. I was basically supposed to be her mentor, which would have pissed people off anyway. Obviously, that worked wonders. We were definitely supposed to run a lot longer than we did.”

Eva Marie revealed that her role was initially meant to be more of a mouthpiece rather than actually wrestling in matches. She compared it to Vickie Guerrero’s managerial style, where she would do minimal wrestling while primarily building up her ally.

However, plans suddenly changed, and she found herself in a different position than expected. Despite the change, she accepted the changes and adapted to what was given to her.

“Initially, my return was supposed to be more as a mouthpiece—almost like a manager. I would be putting her over all the time but also being kind of condescending, which would eventually lead to her telling me to kick rocks. That moment would have given the audience a big payoff. That was the original plan.

I wasn’t supposed to wrestle at all—maybe just do minimal work, kind of like Vickie Guerrero, you know? Oh my god. So that was the idea. But then, all of a sudden, things changed, and I found myself in a different role again. I was like, ‘Wait, what’s happening here?’ It was definitely a curveball, but you just have to roll with whatever is given to you.”

Eva Marie was released from WWE back in 2021, and since then she has worked as movie star and in other projects. Even Piper Niven previously admitted she missed working with Eva Marie. Regardless, Marie’s time in WWE will be memorable for one reason or another and that’s never changing.

Do you think WWE should have stuck with Eva Marie’s original storyline? Would she have been more effective as a manager than an in-ring competitor? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
