Woooo! The state of North Carolina just took a major step toward giving pro wrestling the recognition it deserves — and you better believe Ric Flair is at the center of it.
According to a report from WRAL, the North Carolina senate passed a bipartisan bill this week titled the “Ric Flair Act,” which allocates $500,000 toward a study that would determine whether a professional wrestling hall of fame could be built in the state. The funds will go to the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, who are expected to submit their findings by summer 2026.
The bill doesn’t officially name Flair as an inductee, but the writing’s on the wall. The 16-time World Champion — billed from Charlotte, North Carolina throughout his five-decade career — has become synonymous with the state. From his legendary days in Jim Crockett Promotions to title runs in WCW, WWE, and TNA, Flair is easily one of the most recognizable figures to ever lace up boots in the Carolinas.
While there are already a handful of wrestling halls of fame — including the WWE Hall of Fame, Cauliflower Alley Club, and the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in Albany — this proposed venue could give North Carolina its own dedicated landmark for wrestling fans.
Whether it ends up being a full-blown tourist destination or something more modest, the fact that the state is putting money into the concept — and naming the act after Ric Flair — makes it clear they’re serious about honoring their wrestling roots.
Do you think North Carolina should build a professional wrestling hall of fame? And who besides Ric Flair deserves to be in the first class of inductees? Sound off in the comments — we want to hear your picks.
