WWE brought RAW to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where fans were treated to an electric atmosphere with an exceptionally loud crowd in attendance. The September 9 episode of WWE RAW was filled with thrilling action, and one of the most highly anticipated moments was the #1 contender’s fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship.
Bron Breakker, the reigning Intercontinental Champion, has been awaiting a new challenger, and WWE has been holding a series of triple threat matches to determine who that contender will be. The culmination of these matches led to a high-stakes fatal four-way showdown featuring Jey Uso, Braun Strowman, Ilja Dragunov, and Pete Dunne. The winner of this match would earn the right to challenge Breakker for the title.
The match kicked off with thirty minutes left in the program, and the Calgary crowd erupted in a big way, especially for Jey Uso, who was greeted with massive cheers. Commentary team member Joe Tessitore, alongside Wade Barrett, even pointed out a fan sign that read “CalgarYEET,” showing the crowd’s enthusiasm. From the opening bell, the action was fast and furious, with each Superstar entering the ring and taking out whoever had the upper hand. Jey Uso delivered a dive on Braun Strowman, followed by Dragunov pounding Dunne in the corner before Uso stopped him. Strowman showcased his power by hurling Dunne over the top rope onto Uso and Dragunov.
After the commercial break, Strowman flexed his strength, while Uso engaged in a back-and-forth battle with Pete Dunne. The crowd erupted with “YEET” chants as Jey took control. Dunne fought back, but Strowman got involved again, choking Dunne from the outside until Dragunov launched off the top rope to take him down. All four men eventually found themselves outside the ring, where Strowman was sent crashing into the ring steps by his opponents, prompting “This is Awesome” chants from the Calgary faithful. Jey Uso came close to winning the match after delivering a superkick to Dragunov while attempting a Coast to Coast on Dunne. However, the match continued after another commercial break.
Upon returning from the break, Dragunov and Jey Uso traded blows in the ring while Pete Dunne, bleeding from his nose after a prior hit, struggled outside. Braun Strowman, who had been temporarily sidelined, returned to clear the ring. Just when it seemed like Strowman might regain control, a surprise appearance from Bronson Reed changed the match entirely.
Out of nowhere, Bronson Reed stormed in and completely took out Braun Strowman, smashing him through the announce table. This shocking return from Reed was particularly notable as he had missed last week’s RAW due to a positive COVID test. His unexpected appearance effectively turned the fatal four-way into a triple threat match, as Strowman was eliminated from the action.
In the end, Jey Uso emerged victorious with an Uso Splash off the top rope, securing his spot as the next challenger for Bron Breakker’s Intercontinental Championship.
Bronson Reed’s surprise return added an unexpected twist to the match, leaving fans buzzing about what’s next for him, as well as Breakker’s impending title defense.
