It’s Wednesday night and you know what that means! AEW Dynamite will go down tonight, and Ringside News has got you covered with live play-by-play results coverage for the May 8, 2024 episode.

AEW Dynamite Results (5/8/2024):

The show opens up with TNT Champion “The Rated R Superstar” Adam Copeland arriving at the arena when he was greeted by backstage interviewer Arkady Aura. Copeland says he wasn’t feeling so good. Copeland then says his mind is wandering and he wants to get his head right. Copeland then says he just got off the phone with Tony Khan and that his match with Brody King later tonight will now be a No Disqualification Match. Copeland then tells King and the rest of House of Black, “You wanted the Rated R Superstar?” “Tonight you got him.”

Excalibur and Tony Schiavone then welcomes us to the show as “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy makes his way down to the ring for the first match of the night. Trent Beretta then makes his way down to the ring next.

Singles Match: “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy vs. Trent Beretta

The match starts off with Cassidy and Beretta immediately throwing punches at each other. Beretta then dodges an Orange Punch from Cassidy and retreats to the outside. Cassidy then hits Beretta with a Suicide Dive and delivers some right and left hands on him on the outside. Cassidy then sends Beretta into the ringpost. Beretta then responds with a lariat. Beretta then sends Cassidy into the barricade and deliver some shots at him. Cassidy then jumps the barricade and places his hands in his pockets. Beretta then chases Cassidy into the crowd and gets hit with a superkick. Both men then brawl through the crowd. Cassidy then mounts Beretta and punches him as the crowd counts on. Beretta then tries to get back in the match, but Cassidy responds with a suplex into the aisle. Cassidy then charges at Beretta, but Beretta sends Cassidy over the barricade back to the floor. Beretta then goes to attack Cassidy, but Cassidy trips him up. Both men then hobble their way back in the ring. Beretta then hits Cassidy with a knee strike. Cassidy then hits Beretta with then Orange Punch and both men are down. Don Callis then makes his way out.

Both men are trading shots. Both men then trade counters until Cassidy hits Beretta with a Satellite DDT. Cassidy then mounts Beretta and nails him some more. Beretta then responds with a half-and-half suplex. Beretta then hits Cassidy with a short-arm lariat. Beretta then hits Cassidy with a series of piledrivers and follows it up with a running knee. Beretta then exposes the turnbuckle and so does Cassidy. Cassidy then sends Beretta into the buckle and rolls Beretta up for the win.

After the match, Beretta attacks Cassidy and rearranges the steel steps. Beretta then hits Cassidy with a piledriver on the steel steps. Beretta then catapults Cassidy neck-first into the frame of the ring apron. Beretta then grabs a tool box and Cassidy grabs a chair. Don Callis then separates both men and Kris Statlander talks Beretta down. Don Callis then talks Cassidy down and Cassidy and Callis leave together.

The Elite are then shown arriving in a car earlier today and pulling into Tony Khan’s parking spot. The Elite says Khan is not going to be there today. We then see a video package from last week on Kenny Omega’s return and the beating he received at the hands of The Elite. We then saw comments from “Scapegoat” Jack Perry saying that Omega is not as good as he thinks he is. Perry then says what hurt him the most is that Omega wasn’t the hero they needed him to be and that AEW doesn’t need him anymore. Perry then says everyone has to sacrifice and Omega made his.

Kenny Omega is then shown in the hospital. Omega says The Elite were like family to him. Omega then says that he has business to take care of before he gets surgery. Omega then says at AEW Double or Nothing there will be an Anarchy At The Arena Match in which The Young Bucks, Jack Perry and Kazuchika Okada will face FTR and two stars to be revealed to The Elite sooner than they think.

Tony Schiavone then introduces “The Professor” Serena Deeb and Deeb makes her way out. Deeb says losing at Double or Nothing is not an option. Deeb then says she came back from the hardest 15 months of her life after suffering seizures. Deeb then says the experience was scary and mystifying. Deeb then says that dreaming of being AEW Women’s World Champion kept her motivated as she dealt with the issues. AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm’s music then hits and Storm makes her way out. Storm calls Deeb a charity case and infuriating. Deeb then says she will fight for her life to be champion. Storm then says she doesn’t give a “single solitary sh**” about Deeb’s issues. Deeb then gets in Storm’s face. Deeb then blocks a sneak attack from Storm and lays out the champion.

We then head to the back, where “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy is in the training room. Rocky Romero comes in and tells Cassidy that if he beats “Switchblade” Jay White tonight, then they can get a shot at the Unified AEW World Trios Titles with a partner of their choosing. Cassidy then wishes Romero luck in his match later tonight.

We then get the entrances of the next match, which is a Singles Match.

Singles Match: Harley Cameron vs. Mariah May

The match starts off with Cameron charging at May and delivering a flurry of offense for a near fall. Cameron then continues her assault on May. Cameron then taunts May as she dominates her. May then fights back and sends Cameron into the corner. May then hits Cameron with a series of running elbows in the corner and follows it up with a spinning side slam. May then hits Cameron with a Shotgun Dropkick. Cameron then retreats to the corner and Saraya tends to her. May then goes after Cameron, but Cameron fights back and slams May on the apron. May and Cameron then collide in mid-air and both women are down. Both women then fight to their feet and trade shits. May then hits Cameron with a Missile Dropkick from the top rope. May then goes for a Big Boot, but Saraya pulls Cameron out of the ring. May then smacks Saraya and sends Cameron back in the ring. Cameron then rolls May up for a near fall. May then hits Cameron with Mayhem for the win.

After the match, Cameron and Saraya attack May, but Mina Shirakawa makes her way out to make the save. Shirakawa and May then share a toast of champagne.

We then head to the back, where “The Bastard” PAC says he will be honest. PAC then says at this moment and time he is not concerned about bringing back Death Triangle. PAC is then interrupted by Bullet Club Gold. Jay White says no one is concerned about Death Triangle because it is dead. White then points out that PAC is coming off a loss to Kazuchika Okada. White then says he can get the job done against Okada and maybe he should beat Okada and bring the Continental Championship to Bullet Club Gold. White then says before he can think about that he has to worry about his match with Rocky Romero later on tonight.

We then get a video vignette on Malakai Black. Black speaks about how TNT Champion “The Rated R Superstar” Adam Copeland was so pivotal to the industry that he changed the landscape. Black then says Copeland started fearing death and became painfully aware of his own mortality. Black then speaks about how Copeland found light with his wife and children. Black then says the devil sent a man to remind Copeland who he really is. Black then says he has to bring Copeland to the brink of death so that Copeland can live again.

Excalibur then hypes up the Swerve Strickland and Christian Cage segment and says it will take place next. We then get a video package on The Elite and how they will change the world.

The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson) were then shown wearing headsets while saying that the person who put the video together deserves a raise. Matthew and Nicholas then say they will address what Kenny Omega said in the ring. A crew member then handed them a sheet of paper. Matthew then says the paper said we are about to hear from the AEW World Champion. Matthew then says, “Go get ’em, Swerve.”

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland then makes his way down to the ring without Prince Nana. We then get highlights of “The Patriarch” Christian Cage and his faction attacking Swerve and ripping hair out of his head.

Swerve says when you become AEW World Champion people want a piece of you figuratively and quite literally. Swerve then says he is mad at Christian for stealing a lock of his hair and demands for Christian to bring the rest of The Addams Family to the ring. Christian then makes his way down to the ring and says there won’t be any championship this year as the Montreal Canadiens are about to beat The Edmonton Oilers in hockey.

Christian then says Swerve has ridden a wave of support that will crash on the shore soon and he feels he deserves to be world champion now. Christian then says he will foreclose on Swerve’s House, take his title and his teeth. The Gates of Agony and Brian Cage then make their way out and backs up Swerve. Swerve then says he will beat Christian’s ass like Kendrick beat Drake and it won’t bet the first time someone from the west coast beat a fake father from Canada. Swerve then promises to make Christian say “I Quit.” Christian is speechless, but then Gates of Agony and Brian Cage attack Swerve. They then hit Swerve with a powerbomb. The Gates of Agony and Brian Cage then fight off the referees and security. They then hit Swerve with a double team maneuver through the announce table and Christian laughs and walks away.

We then head to the back, where Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson applauds Christian Cage as soon as he and his faction shows up. Christian credits the Young Bucks for the idea and says it was a pleasure doing business with them. Matthew then asks Nicholas if what happened would be considered a b***h move.

TBS Champion Willow Nightingale is then being interviewed. Nightingale says she is beat up after last week, but you can’t beat the smile off her face. Nightingale then says she is ready for Mercedes Moné, but wants to know if Mercedes is ready for her. Willow then points out that the last time they were in the ring together, she came out as the winner. Nightingale then asks Mercedes if she is ready for the fight of their lives later this month at Double or Nothing.

We then get the entrances of the next match, which is a Singles Match.

Singles Match: Rocky “Azúcar” Romero vs. Unified World Trios Champion “Switchblade” Jay White

The match starts off with Romero getting the early advantage early. Romero then hit White with a suicide dive. Romero then goes for the Forever Lariats, but gets hit with a lariat from White. White then delivers some rights and lefts to Romero. Romero then counters with a suplex and a Tornado DDT off the ropes. Both men then fight to the outside and Romero gets the advantage on White, then sends White back in the ring. Romero then hits White with a diving crossbody and gets a near fall. Romero then counters a Sleeper Suplex with a rollup for another near fall. White then counters the Sliced Bread. Romero then counters Blade Runner and rolls White up for a near fall. Romero then hits White with a Running Sliced Bread, but White comes back with a suplex. White then hits Romero with the Blade Runner for the win.

After the match, Bullet Club Gold continue their attack on Romero, but PAC’s music hits and the Bullet Club Gold retreat.

We then get a video package of Samoa Joe training. Joe speaks about how fear drives a warrior. Joe then says he is not a warrior who fears, he is what these men fear in the first place.

We then get the entrances of the next match, which is a Tag Team Match.

Tag Team Match: FTW Champion “The Learning Tree” Chris Jericho and Big Bill vs. Mo Jabari and Harlon Abbott

The match starts off with Big Bill immediately tagging in and fighting both their opponents at once. Bill then hits a Bossman Slam and a chokeslam. Bill then hits a chokeslam once again and tags Jericho in. Jericho then hits the Judas Effect for the win.

After the match, Jericho says he is happy to be in Calgary and immediately corrects himself to Edmonton. Jericho then apologizes and says he deserves the “You f***ed up chants.” Jericho then says he learns from mistakes. Jericho then thanks Big Bill for all his help and says Bill is already learning. Jericho then thanks Shibata for a great match. Jericho then thanks HOOK. Tony Schiavone then joins Jericho in the ring. Schiavone then says HOOK will return next week on Dynamite. Jericho then says he looks forward to the return of HOOK.

We then get the entrances of the main event, which is a Cope Open Challenge TNT Championship No Disqualification Match.

Cope Open Challenge TNT Championship No Disqualification Match: “The Rated R Superstar” Adam Copeland (c) vs. The House Of Black’s Brody King

The match starts off with both men locking up. The fight then spills to the outside and Copeland takes advantage. Copeland then nails King with a steel chair. King then responds with a slam on the apron. Copeland then gouges the eye of King and DDT’s him on a chair on the apron and King is busted open. Copeland then delivers rights and lefts on King and King smiles. King then gets back in the ring and Copeland hits him with a Flying Crossbody for a near fall. Copeland then wedges a chair in the corner and takes the cross bar from a chair. King then hits Copeland with a lariat. King then sends Copeland head-first into the chair in the corner.

King then puts Copeland in a rear naked choke on the apron. King then climbs to the top rope and tries to hang Copeland, but Copeland pushes King off the top rope. Both men then hit the big boot and they are both down. King. then recovers and gains the upperhand. King then drags Copeland to the corner and hits him with a Running Cannonball for a near fall. Copeland then counters a Gonzo Bomb with an Edge-O-Matic. King then counters a Spear with a Spike Piledriver. Copeland and King then fight to the apron and Copeland hits King with a Death Valley Driver. Copeland then Spears King through a table at ringside. Both men then fight back into the ring and Copeland hits King with a Spear for the win.

After the match, King continues his attack on Copeland, but Kyle O’Reilly makes his way down to the ring to make the save.

We then head to the back, where Mercedes Moné says she thrives in places like AEW. Moné then says she is going to be promoting AEW all week and spending the rest of her time training. Moné then says she is ready for Willow Nightingale. Moné then says Willow took a year of her career. Moné then says she questioned her abilities but she is that b***h. Moné then says she is going to steal Willow’s title and her smile.

We then see Kyle O’Reilly asks TNT Champion “The Rated R Superstar” Adam Copeland for a Cope Open Match in his hometown on Saturday. Copeland then says O’Reilly is on.

The Elite then make their way down to the ring and says the show doesn’t end until they say it’s over. Matthew Jackson then says he got an overrun from the network for important business. Kazuchika Okada then tells Kenny Omega to get well soon. Matthew Jackson then sends well wishes to Tony Khan. Matthew Jackson then says The New Elite are here to make AEW a better place. Nicholas Jackson then agrees to the Anarchy In The Arena Match. FTR then make their way out and they introduce Eddie Kingston and Bryan Danielson as their Anarchy In The Arena teammates. All men then brawl as the show comes to a close.
