Kenny Omega was originally scheduled to team up with Chris Jericho to compete for the AEW World Tag Team Championships. However, Omega is currently sidelined due to diverticulitis, a serious medical condition that has required him to take a break from professional wrestling. He is set to return on Dynamite next week and has now admitted he wasn’t fully on board with that decision.

Omega’s situation became even more concerning when he encountered a life-threatening emergency with a 50% chance of death due to his severe illness. Reports indicated that he needed essential surgery for his recovery, but the procedure was postponed, leading to an indefinite break from his professional duties.

In case you missed it, Kenny Omega’s AEW television return was confirmed this week as he would be present at the Canada Life Centre for the May 1 edition of AEW Dynamite.

While speaking on his Twitch, Kenny Omega admitted he wasn’t sure about returning to AEW television and was about 80% on board. However, when his return was advertised, he ultimately made the decision to give the green signal and agree to returning.

”I remember thinking about maybe, maybe showing up to Winnipeg. It was a maybe. And then I saw that my sister, my parents, my aunty who lives in Calgary who said ‘Oh my goodness we heard the big news.’ I was like ‘What big news?’ They were like ‘Yeah, the arena was advertising your return.’ And I thought ‘Come on, man I’m like 80% on board maybe, but I don’t know man.’ And I thought ‘Well, they advertised me. I guess that 80 becomes a 100.’ So, I called the boss and was like ‘Hey man, you wanna run a graphic or something, I guess I’ll show up.”

Kenny Omega’s last AEW appearance was on the December 9 episode of Collision, where he emerged victorious in a singles match against Ethan Page. Before that, he teamed up with Chris Jericho as part of The Golden Jets, with their most notable win at AEW Full Gear.

During that event, they defeated The Young Bucks in a high-stakes Title Shot vs. Disbandment match, ensuring their team’s continuation while also securing a shot at the AEW Tag Team Championships. Nonetheless, we will have to wait and see what Omega will do after his appearance on next week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
