Nic Nemeth, who was released from WWE in September, bided his time until 2024 to make his move. He is now on a roll in promotions such as TNA and NJPW, but it appears he is also happy about how WWE has shifted from Vince McMahon’s way of doing things.

The wrestling industry has been shaken by grave allegations against Vince McMahon, the most divisive figure in the realm of sports entertainment. Things are different in WWE now as Triple H is now in charge of Creative and with McMahon permanently out of the picture, many within the industry believe that this change is a positive development.

In recent changes within WWE, the company is reportedly moving away from using the term “sports entertainment,” a phrase that was a staple under the leadership of Vince McMahon. This marks a significant shift in language and approach, signaling a return to the traditional term “professional wrestling.”

Nic Nemeth shared his thoughts on the shift during an appearance on “Busted Open Radio.” Nemeth explained that under McMahon’s leadership, there was a concerted effort to elevate the industry beyond wrestling and focus on making it larger and more theatrical.

“Vince very much … wanted to not be associated just with pro wrestling, but making it bigger and better in his mind, and that’s totally true,” Nemeth said. “It is cool [now] because — you go to default. You’re not thinking, ‘What are the words I have to say today?’ You’re like, ‘No, man. I’m in pro wrestling, the thing I dreamed of, the thing I wanted to do my whole life.'”

However, Nemeth expressed his approval of the return to the term “professional wrestling,” highlighting the excitement of being involved in the industry he has loved his entire life. He appreciates the new freedom to default to using the language he feels best represents the industry he is passionate about.

“I remember eight years ago, WrestleMania would have one or two other shows and some signings near it,” Nemeth continued. “And now … there’s 10 events every single night. … It’s so cool and it’s this big moment of a week for everyone in pro wrestling to get together and have a blast.”

Triple H has also eliminated another Vince McMahon rule recently as well. WWE is embracing a new era marked by a greater openness to acknowledging wrestlers’ past experiences and affiliations. This is a departure from previous practices where the company often focused on presenting wrestlers with new identities while minimizing their histories outside of WWE and fans couldn’t be happier about this fact.
