Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport featuring Shayna Baszler marks a significant collaboration between WWE and the independent wrestling scene. It appears another WWE star appeared at the event as well.

The news of multiple WWE talents being scheduled to compete at Bloodsport, an event technically promoted by GCW, came as surprise to many. This is particularly noteworthy given that talents from AEW have also been featured on Bloodsport in the past. Historically, WWE has been cautious about allowing its talents to work independent shows, making this development unexpected and intriguing for wrestling fans.

During Shayna Baszler’s match at GCW’s Bloodsport X on April 4 against Marsha Slamovich, another WWE star made a surprise appearance at the same event in Philadelphia. WWE NXT’s Charlie Dempsey, who currently holds the Heritage Cup Championship, showed up unexpectedly, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.

Dempsey’s appearance at GCW’s Bloodsport X isn’t his first venture outside of WWE. Prior to this, he had also participated in All Japan Pro Wrestling in late December and January. During his brief stint in Japan, Dempsey challenged Katsuhiko Nakajima for the AJPW Triple Crown but unfortunately came up short in their match on January 3. We’ll have to see if he will appear in other non-WWE events in the future.
