The wrestling industry has been shaken by serious allegations against Vince McMahon, a figure who looms large in the world of sports entertainment. Amidst the ongoing debate and controversy surrounding McMahon, including concerning allegations of trafficking, it appears that Netflix will proceed with producing a documentary despite the legal challenges.

On January 25th, Janel Grant, a former WWE staff member, initiated legal proceedings against WWE, John Laurinaitis, and Vince McMahon, alleging incidents of sexual assault, emotional abuse, and sex trafficking dating back to March 2019. These allegations have cast a dark shadow over McMahon’s reputation and sparked widespread condemnation within the industry.

Back in 2020 news came out that Netflix is shooting documentary based on the life of the former WWE head. It was previously reported that due to the lawsuit, Vince McMahon’s documentary release was in doubt.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was reported that the Netflix documentary will still be released despite the lawsuit.

“Some thought that with the Netflix $5.2 billion deal with TKO and the Janel Grant lawsuit, maybe Netflix would just scrap the thing. That isn’t the case, but they obviously have to change the direction based on what happened.”

At one point, the documentary was slated for an earlier release. Although it won’t coincide with WrestleMania season, plans are still in place for its release in 2024. However, a specific timeframe has not yet been finalized.

It is noteworthy that despite the negative impact of McMahon’s legal troubles on the industry, WWE recently secured a deal to bring WWE RAW to Netflix starting in January 2025. This agreement was finalized just days before the emergence of the allegations against McMahon. Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see how the documentary will turn out.
