In the previous month, Sting and Darby Allin secured the AEW Tag Team Champions titles and effectively retained their championships by defeating The Young Bucks at AEW Revolution. Sting retired at the show but many fans wondered why AEW never used any footage of his time from WCW.

Ahead of the AEW Revolution pay-per-view and even during the show, AEW produced wonderful video packages encapsulating Sting’s illustrious career over the years. Footage from his time in Japan and other promotions was shown, but there was a distinct lack of WCW footage.

According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there was speculation among many people about whether WWE would reciprocate Khan’s past gestures of allowing his talent to appear on WWE television to honor John Cena and at the Hall of Fame ceremonies. The current status remains unknown, as WWE was never approached or asked by AEW for such reciprocation.

”Many people wondered, given in the past Khan has allowed his talent to appear on WWE television to honor John Cena and at the Hall of Fame ceremonies, if WWE would reciprocate here. The answer is that we don’t know because WWE was never asked.”

It is not known why AEW didn’t even ask WWE for footage of Sting’s time in WCW, as his WCW tenure was such a significant part of his life. Nevertheless, Sting retired in the best way possible and that is what matters in the end.
