Alongside the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes played a crucial role in shaping AEW’s creative direction since its inception on January 1, 2019. While Rhodes now pursues opportunities in WWE and his former colleagues continue to thrive in AEW, the bond between the EVPs remains still.

Matt and Nick Jackson are the only EVPs who currently feature on AEW TV. Kenny Omega stays away due to diverticulitis, while Rhodes left AEW in February 2022. Speaking with SI, the Young Bucks shared that they were happy for Rhodes’ success in WWE. Nick Johnson added that they always knew Cody would achieve great things in WWE, highlighting their belief in his star power.

“Cody is the face of the WWE now, and it’s cool to see because we always knew how much of a star he was,” said Nick Jackson. “The founders of AEW will always have a lifetime bond with each other because we all know what we did for wrestling. We talk every week and in a weird way him leaving made us grow more as friends.”

“We’re proud of the things we accomplished with Cody and happy to see him rising to the occasion. We’re all rooting for each other.”

Nick further revealed that despite Rhodes’ departure, the EVPs maintain regular communication and continue to root for each other’s success. Meanwhile, Cody will challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40. There’s also a possibility that he’ll play double duty during the event.

While Rhodes prepares for a high-stakes showdown against Roman Reigns, the Young Bucks focus on their upcoming challenge at AEW Revolution, where they will fight for the AEW World Tag Team Championships against Sting and Darby Allin. The match will be the last of Sting’s career.
