Vince McMahon made headlines back in June 2022 for all the wrong reasons after it was revealed that he secretly paid $3 million in a hush-money scandal. It was all downhill for McMahon and eventually led to his temporary retirement. He came back to WWE and ended up resigning this year after yet another sexual trafficking lawsuit and in light of this, Bret Hart apologized to one of McMahon’s past victims.

Vince McMahon faced previous accusations of sexual assault from former WWE referee Rita Chatterton in 1992. The matter resurfaced in November 2022 when McMahon’s attorney received letter from Chatterton, demanding $11.75 million in compensation for the alleged assault after her accusations gained renewed public attention in 2022.

Vince McMahon eventually agreed to a multi-million dollar settlement with Rita Chatterton last year, although the amount was not revealed.

Back in 1992, many individuals within WWE were skeptical of Rita Chatterton’s claims, and efforts were made within the company to discredit her. WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart also came to the defense of Vince McMahon.

While speaking with Slate, Hart expressed regret over the situation. He mentioned that he recently met Chatterton at a convention and apologized for not believing her back in 1992.

“I just didn’t believe it. I figured Vince had too much at stake to ever do something like that. I apologized from the bottom of my heart,” Hart recalled, “and I said, ‘I believe that what happened to you, happened to you. And I apologize. I was wrong.”

Vince McMahon also has no path back to WWE following his trafficking lawsuit. A former WWE employee also claimed that there are more scandals about McMahon that will come out. It remains to be seen what will become of Vince McMahon in the end.
