Backstage Reaction After Gunther’s Royal Rumble Botch on 1/22 WWE RAW Episode

Gunther is currently experiencing an iconic run as the Intercontinental Champion in WWE. Despite displaying improved promo skills over the past few months, he faced an unfortunate botch on RAW this week. Now, WWE’s response to the botch has been revealed.

On this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, Seth Rollins kicked off the show and revealed that he had suffered an MCL tear. With uncertainty about his future, Rollins was interrupted by Gunther. Gunther paid respect to Rollins’ Championship reign and acknowledged Rollins’ uncertain WrestleMania status.

Rollins brushed off his medical issues and pledged to defend his title at WrestleMania 40. Gunther then declared his intention to win the Royal Rumble and challenge Rollins. However, Gunther faced an embarrassing moment as he accidentally stated he would win the Royal Rumble “this Sunday” on Monday Night RAW.

According to Sean Ross Sapp behind Fightful’s paywall, the backstage reaction to Gunther’s botch involved WWE scrambling to put up a “Royal Rumble this Saturday” graphic, and commentary also addressed the blunder.

Gunther also played off the botch in hilarious way. It remains to be seen whether The Ring General will end up winning the Royal Rumble this weekend and punch his ticket for WrestleMania 40.
