WWE is an ever-changing product and continues to give people something different. This was evident after Kevin Patrick joined the main roster commentary team. However, it appears he will be removed from his role soon.
Kevin Patrick joined Corey Graves as the SmackDown commentary team following Michael Cole’s return to Monday Night RAW with Wade Barrett earlier back in 2023.
As previously reported, many in WWE were closely monitoring Kevin Patrick’s performance as he became the lead play-by-play commentator for SmackDown without Michael Cole by his side. The belief was that Patrick had to show his skills in the role if he wanted to remain in his current position.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, it was reported that the SmackDown commentary team will be undergoing a change, as Kevin Patrick will be removed from his role. No replacement for Patrick has been mentioned so far.
“Kevin Patrick is gone, unless something changes. I don’t know all details, I don’t know who’s gonna be replacing him. I’m not surprised. They just did an announcer change the first of the year, so it’s like a couple of weeks ago.”
“Corey Graves has been totally carrying the SmackDown announcing. I don’t know who they’ll bring in, could be Vic Joseph.
“Nick Khan likes to hire sports people but the problem is, announcing sports and announcing wrestling are very different. Jimmy Smith did a good job, but that’s because he announced real fights and tried to announce wrestling in a real fight way.”
In the end, Kevin Patrick proved commentary was just not for him, as fans constantly complained about how performance every week. We will have to wait and see who will end up replacing Patrick.
