Despite being one of the most beloved stars in pro wrestling, Kota Ibushi’s recent performance has been disappointing. Earlier this week, he was involved in one of the worst matches in NOAH history, and Ibushi has now announced that he will undergo surgery due to ankle injuries sustained in that match.

At Pro Wrestling NOAH’s ‘The New Year 2024’ main event, Naomichi Marufuji and Kota Ibushi faced off in a singles match that lasted over 30 minutes. Despite an injury scare when Ibushi grabbed his ankle after attempting a moonsault to the outside, he persevered and ultimately won the match.

The match faced a ton of backlash on social media, with many fans observing that Kota Ibushi seemed to be dealing with injuries throughout the entire bout. The situation was compounded as Ibushi was promptly taken to the hospital after the match due to breaking his ankles.

In light of such events, Kota Ibushi took to Twitter and confirmed that he would be undergoing ankle surgery after injuring himself during the NOAH bout. He noted that he decided to have surgery on the right ligament of his left ankle and apologized for the match once again.

“Sorry for the late contact. I’m sure Mr. NOAH will give you more details, but I would like to inform you that the inside of my left ankle was quite a mess, so I decided to have surgery on the right ligament. I think there will be a release soon. I’m really, really sorry.”

Kota Ibushi also alleged scam by clinics after the match. Regardless, we certainly hope Kota Ibushi takes all the time he needs in order to recuperate and come back stronger than ever before.
