Tony Khan has a lot of plans for AEW, and he has a loaded 2024 ahead for them as well. That being said, a new comparison may not paint them in the greatest light.

AEW started out in 2019 with ton of momentum, and they had the entire pro wrestling world’s attention. In recent memory, they’ve had trouble filling venues, and their booking is also the subject of ridicule at every turn.

During his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff was quite blunt in his take on AEW. He said that, apart from the fact that Tony Khan produces matches in front of live fans and not a sound stage, they are pretty much the same as TNA Wrestling.

“AEW has made a commitment to producing shows in front of live audiences, that’s becoming more of a challenge as time goes on. That being said, they’re not producing their show on a sound stage … other than that, they’re just like TNA. Over-hyped, under-deliver, tons of former WWE talent who cycled out of the system and established predominantly in the TNA product of AEW. The only different, to his credit, is that Tony has committed to continuing putting on a show in front of a live crowd.

AEW hasn’t seen a tremendous 2023. There was one trial after another for Tony Khan’s company. Only time will tell what is in the future, but Eric Bischoff is very certain about his stance on things.

Tony Khan will continue, as he tries to fight the TNA stigma. Hopefully, they can figure something out, because they certainly need to figure out a new plan of action at this point.
