Goldberg’s winning streak in WCW was unprecedented, spanning from September 1997 to December 1998. During this period, he raked up a ton of wins, and although the record is contested, it is reported to be 173-0 before his first loss came around. Today is a big day for him.

Goldberg’s streak started when Goldberg defeated Hugh Morrus on the September 22nd, 1997 episode of WCW Monday Nitro. From that point on, he continued to dominate his opponents.

During that incredible streak, on July 6th, 1998 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, he faced Hollywood Hogan for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Then, Goldberg defeated Hogan to capture the title, a historic match that only had a few days notice.

The streak came to an end on December 27th, 1998, at the Starrcade pay-per-view event. In a match against Kevin Nash, the outcome was controversial and saw Scott Hall interfere on Nash’s behalf as he used a taser on Goldberg.

Today marks 25 years since that historic day. Reddit, along with other fans on social media, have been remembering that moment in pro wrestling history.

This comes on a day when Goldberg made headlines as he mentioned how Vince McMahon promised him a retirement match that he never delivered on. We will have to see if Goldberg ever wrestles again, but he certainly made a big memory 25 years ago.
