Saraya was the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion, and she had a nice run with WWE. Sadly, an injury kept her out of the ring for a long time, but that changed when she went to AEW.

Now, as AEW Women’s World Champion, Saraya is really letting her hair down. She’s having a lot of fun as she embraces her bad girl image, something that she wanted to do for a while now.

While speaking to Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Saraya discussed her heel turn, and how it relates to how she was perceived in the pro wrestling world. It was a turn she wanted to do, and she’s going to make the most of everything, as she keeps pushing fans’ buttons.

“I always wanted to be a heel, even before [AEW] knew I was gonna be wrestling again. I always wanted to be a bad guy. Because I already knew it wasn’t going to be long until they turned on me. I knew that. I said that – having conversations before I came to AEW, I was speaking to Jon Moxley, I was speaking to [Chris] Jericho, I was speaking to Tony Khan.”

“They were all telling me, ‘You’re gonna be a babyface first because people are just gonna be happy to see you.’ It was really frustrating. What I kept doing is I kept throwing in heelish things in promos or how I acted, things like that. I wanted that slow burn anyway and then eventually I was gonna get the opportunity to turn heel – I just had to wait a little bit. It worked out!”

Saraya also said that she really went ham on X to show her meaner side. This includes roasting fans and pulling no punches to display her heel demeanor.

“Wrestling twitter is so soft. It’s because it’s a bunch of misogynistic neck beards or stan accounts who can’t tell a wrist lock from a pad lock. But they follow everything I do. Watch my tweets. Search my name. Keep me trending. That’s showbiz baby!”

Saraya will defend the AEW Women’s World Title against Toni Storm at AEW Grand Slam this week. Dynamite will be a big night for her as she defends the title she won in Wembley Stadium.

Only time will tell how Saraya’s time in AEW pans out. She just celebrated one year with the company, and she’s champion right now. Odds are, she would agree that things are going well for her as a heel.
