John Cena is returning to WWE, and tonight’s SmackDown will see him on the company’s programming for the first time since Money in the Bank. It appears that Cena will be around for a few weeks as well, because he has the next two months blocked off for WWE.

Although John Cena’s announced return schedule only included SmackDown events, he will likely work in a couple pay-per-views along the way. This could mean that John Cena will work an actual program with a match or two as well.

PW Insider noted that John Cena is expected to appear at Payback this Sunday, but that’s not all. There is also talk that the 16x World Champion will be around for the Fastlane pay-per-view in October.

Within WWE, there’s been talk of John Cena appearing at both Payback this weekend and Fastlane in October.

John Cena’s name certainly drives a lot of interest. They don’t really need the help selling out Pittsburgh for Payback, because the only seats remaining are due to their extreme price tags.

Ringside News reached out to ask about John Cena’s WWE return, and how long this has been planned. We were told by a tenured member of the team that, “Cena has been discussing a return since the SAG strike.” It appears that Cena has found a way to stay busy during his downtime.
