The Schism faction in NXT started off as Joe Gacy with a creepy cult leader gimmick. He soon found a following, and they frequently rock their masks on NXT at this point. It seems this idea was a long time in the making.

Joe Gacy said on Out of Character that before he debuted on television, he actually came up with an idea about a cult with Ava. The Grizzled Young Vets were not included as a tag team at the time, because they had other people.

This little story just goes to show how a good idea can sometimes come around and become reality if it’s good enough. Now NXT fans are seeing that storyline unfold on a weekly basis.

“Funny story about Ava Raine. Before I debuted on TV, me and her got together and came up with this idea of a cult group. Originally, it was me, her and this other guy. We were pitching for us…the original idea was almost a House of 1000 Corpses type family with a culty edge. Things didn’t work out exactly and then [NXT] 2.0 started and that maybe changed some ideas. When 2.0 happened, I feel that idea went out the window because it was an overhaul repackaging of the brand itself. I guess the idea of her and me joining together was put on the backburner.”

“When it was me, Rip, and Jagger, she came up to me at the PC and said, ‘Did you hear what is going to happen?’ ‘No.’ ‘I’m going to join you guys.’ ‘That’s awesome’ since originally it was going to be me and her trying to do something anyway. I’m glad it finally panned out on TV. She was a big part of the beginnings of the idea.”

Ava was recently kidnapped by the Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile, but they let her go after the Dyad agreed to a cage match. The Creed Brothers are fighting to reverse that Loser Leaves NXT match that went down several weeks ago.

The Schism faction might have gotten off to a slow start, but they came into their own in a big way. Now they are one of the longest running stories going in WWE’s developmental brand.

What’s your take on the the Schism storyline in NXT? Should WWE bring the whole group up to the main roster as they are? Sound off in the comments to let us know what you think!
