Cody Rhodes returned to WWE after years away from the company, and he also helped start up AEW in the meantime. Needless to say, having the former AEW EVP back in WWE was a big deal, but it wasn’t in stone until just a week or two before his big return.

During his new WWE documentary, Cody Rhodes revealed that online rumors of his AEW contract expiring led to Bruce Prichard reaching out. That call developed in to a lot more, and the two sides started to discuss things.

Vince McMahon also flew out to see Cody Rhodes at his home for a meeting during that process. It was an all-hands-on-board situation to get Cody Rhodes to sign with WWE once again, leaving AEW in the process.

Seth Rollins said in the Cody Rhodes documentary that “it wasn’t finalizes until like two weeks before WrestleMania.”

Obviously, WWE was able to get Cody Rhodes back, and he surprised WWE fans in a huge way when it was revealed that the American Nightmare was in WWE as Seth Rollins’ mystery opponent at the showcase of the immortals. Cody Rhodes made a seamless transition to WWE, complete with his American Nightmare gimmick attached.

We will keep a close eye on Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes from now on. At this point, they are friendly on-screen, but only time will tell if things between them sour once again, or competition gets the better of them and another feud erupts.

What’s your take on Cody Rhodes’ return to WWE? Do you think AEW would have been able to offer Cody Rhodes anything close to this? Sound off in the comments to let us know what you think!
