Drew McIntyre’s WWE Return Held Up With Creative Issue

Drew McIntyre hasn’t been seen on WWE television since WrestleMania. The Scottish Warrior was injured on the road to WrestleMania, but he decided to gut it out and work that triple threat IC Title match against GUNTHER and Sheamus anyway. Now, McIntyre is out of action.

Drew McIntyre’s contract situation was a huge discussion point with fans in recent memory. His deal, along with other Superstars, runs out at the end of 2023. He had yet to sign anything new that we heard.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter dropped an update about Drew McIntyre. It was noted that any hold on McIntyre’s return is due to a creative issue.

At this point, McIntyre’s return is basically more a creative issue regarding what they want, what he wants, and when they agree to it. Regarding the potential of his leaving, the time he has been out of action can be used to freeze and extend his contract if WWE so desires. WWE in the past has done that with numerous wrestlers who had expressed wanting to leave. It should be noted that McIntyre to the best of our knowledge has not asked to leave, but they have not agreed to a new deal. But there is an obvious spot for him as a heel challenging Rollins

It was previously reported that WWE is close to inking new deal with a current Superstar. Although that Superstar name was not disclosed, many fans were hopeful that he report was referring to Drew McIntyre.

We will have to see when Drew McIntyre shows up next. His contract situation was a big talking point before, but it seems that they are just waiting for the best creative idea to see him re-join the roster on television.
