AEW looked like they were going to get CM Punk back in the company, but it appears those talks hit a snag. The Second City Savior was absent from their Collision announcement today, and that got the rumor mill going in big way.

CM Punk was expected to be a part of the upcoming Collision program. This will end his year-long break with the company after he engaged in a brawl with three of the company’s EVPs backstage after AEW All Out last year.

CM Punk and Ace Steel go back a long way. It was previously noted that an issue with bringing Steel back was the problem this time around. Now, we have even more details about those problems.

Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that CM Punk was told that Ace Steel could return to the company, and work directly with him. That being said, Steel wouldn’t be allowed to actually show up to the building for AEW events.

Fightful was told that there was a meeting this week between AEW and Punk, and it was extended to Punk that Steel would have the ability to be with the company and work directly with Punk. However, it was made clear that Ace Steel would not be able to be at AEW television. We haven’t learned specifically how Punk reacted to this, outside of him not being in agreement with it.

We have not been told if this is tied to Punk not being featured on the WBD materials or the statement they made about him not being associated with the brand, though it was noted to us that . There were plans for an AEW camera crew to film materials at CM Punk’s home on Wednesday, but we’ve not been told if that actually happened.

As of now, we have not been told a change in plans for CM Punk.

It was also noted that, “IMPACT was interested in bringing in Ace Steel in recent weeks, but he passed, leading to their belief that he was AEW or WWE bound.” This situation is far from over though.

We will have complete coverage of AEW Dynamite here at Ringside News. It is likely going to be a big night for the company.
