WWE has a Performance Center full of main roster hopefuls, and they all need different things to help them grow as wrestlers. Sometimes it takes getting them out of the same environment to give them a little change of scenery. That is one of the reasons why WWE likes taking NXT Superstars along with them on the road.

Occasionally, NXT Superstars will be spotted backstage at WWE main roster events. They often wrestle on Main Event before RAW on Mondays. A few of those NXT Superstars might be in line for main roster call-ups, but that doesn’t guarantee it will happen imminently.

Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that WWE takes their talent on the road to main roster live events and television tapings for a few reasons. One of the biggest reasons is they want to see how those wrestlers look on the main roster’s bigger stage outside of Florida’s Performance Center.

NXT talent regularly works WWE Main Event tapings before Raw. Of late we’ve seen tons of talent at varying degrees of experience appear on those tapings. Sources familiar with the situation said that’s to add intrigue to the Main Event show, get talent reps in front of bigger non-Florida TV crowds, see how they work on main roster TV, and evaluate the talent working with veterans. While it isn’t an indication that a call-up is even being considered, it can go a long way with a good performance.

It was also noted that, “just because an NXT talent is working tapings or dark matches, doesn’t mean they’re primed for a call up. Both Dakota Kai and Bronson Reed were regularly at main roster tapings before their releases their first go around.”

We’ll have to see how the 2023 WWE Draft pans out. Obviously, there is a lot to unpack, and a lot more could happen after Draft night, because we’ve seen people moved around even when they said the picks were finished.

What’s your take on the 2023 WWE Draft? Do you think that the rosters will look better after it’s all over with? Sound off in the comments!
