Cody Rhodes had all the momentum in the world ahead of WrestleMania 39, as fans believed he would be the one to dethrone Roman Reigns. Unfortunately, Cody Rhodes was unable to defeat Roman Reigns at the Show of Shows.

Following his loss, rumors spread that Vince McMahon was involved in the decision-making process to ensure that Roman Reigns maintained his record-setting reign as champion.

However, according to Sean Ross Sapp behind Fightful’s paywall, Vince McMahon did not influence the match finish. It was added that during McMahon’s tenure as head of creative, there were no plans for Roman Reigns to drop the world title, “much less for Cody Rhodes to win it.”

Cody Rhodes’ loss was heartbreaking for fans and pro wrestlers alike, who all wanted to see Rhodes finish the story. Regardless, we will have to wait and see what WWE has planned for The American Nightmare next.
