Shinsuke Nakamura made name for himself in NJPW, where he ruled the roost as the King Of Strong Style. He has a deep love for Japanese wrestling in general, and so it was not really any surprise that Nakamura was very excited about his match against The Great Muta. That being said, it seems WWE blocked Nakamura from competing with Muta at the Tokyo Dome.

Shinsuke Nakamura faced off against The Great Muta at the NOAH The New Year show on January 1st, 2023. After a hard-fought battle, it was Nakamura who was the better man and won the match.

As the much-anticipated WWE Hall of Fame induction of The Great Muta approaches on March 31st, the renowned Japanese wrestling icon has disclosed some interesting details regarding his recent retirement tour plans.

While speaking in a recent interview with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi, Muta said via a translator that his actual final advertised match would have seen him face off against Nakamura at the Tokyo Dome.

According to Muta, his planned final match with Nakamura did not initially receive approval from WWE, resulting in a change of plans.

Muto told me, through a translator (the great@the_mizutama), that the initial plan was for him to face Shinsuke Nakamura at the Tokyo Dome last month in his final advertised match. But WWE didn’t approve Nakamura for that right away, so Tetsuya Naito was the choice.

This unexpected turn of events led to Tetsuya Naito replacing Nakamura in the Tokyo Dome, marking a significant deviation from Muta’s original plans for his retirement tour. Despite this change, Muta remains grateful for the incredible career he has had and is excited to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

What’s your take on what The Great Muta said? Are you disappointed the match didn’t take place in the Tokyo Dome? Sound off in the comments!
