Ken Shamrock is one of the first names that comes to mind who transitioned from the MMA world to the world of professional wrestling. He saw a decent level of success in pro wrestling as well. He was well aware of how the Montreal Screwjob affected the pro wrestling world. In fact, it seems the incident made him distrust people in WWE.

The Montreal Screwjob remains one of the most controversial incidents in pro wrestling history, as it is still talked about to this very day. This is largely due to everything that transpired backstage after the incident, especially with Bret Hart and Vince McMahon.

While speaking on the Ten Count podcast, Ken Shamrock talked about the Montreal Screwjob. Shamrock admitted that he began to feel a sense of distrust towards WWE after witnessing what happened with Hart and Michaels.

According to Shamrock, the situation in Montreal made him feel uneasy about how the company would treat him and how far they would go if he ever refused to do something. This growing sense of distrust began to affect his focus on his craft, leading to a decline in his performances.

“That’s why things started going south for me after that because I had this distrust going into the ring and I wasn’t as focused on my craft at that time.”

Despite acknowledging that nobody in WWE had given him a reason to distrust them, Shamrock’s inner thoughts began to fester to the point where he trusted no one. He admitted that this was not fair to the organization or to Vince McMahon, but the impact of the Montreal Screwjob was too great to ignore.

“It’s not fair to the organization, Vince, and anybody in the organization that I was thinking that way because you know that was a different situation with Bret and all of them.”

The incident not only led to the birth of the Mr. McMahon character, but it also had lasting effects on the careers and mentalities of many wrestlers in the industry. Regardless, the incident will continue to be talked about forevermore.
