John Cena returned during the March 6th edition of WWE RAW in Boston. The overwhelming reception Cena received from his fans moved him to tears. As expected, he was confronted by Austin Theory, who challenged him to a match at WrestleMania 39.

John Cena initially turned down Austin Theory’s WrestleMania offer and ridiculed the United States Champion by saying that he is just a John Cena wannabe. The 16-time World Champion stated that he declined the offer as he doesn’t feel Theory is capable to compete against him. Eventually, Cena accepted Austin Theory’s offer on behalf of his fans, who would love to see him compete at Grandest stage of them all.

While leaving the ring, John Cena told Austin Theory that he isn’t ready for the big picture, but certainly knows someone who is. The 16-time World Champion then introduced Cody Rhodes and acknowledged him. The two hugged each other , andand it was a lovely moment met with considerable pop.

During a recent interview with AP news, John Cena gave his honest answer to the reason he is working with Austin Theory. Cena stated that he doesn’t give an emphasis on who his opponent would be, rather just tries to give his best in what he is told to do.

“You would be surprised at my answer. Because that’s what I was told would happen. I don’t do that. I don’t say, ‘I want to do this. I want to work with that person.’ I don’t ever do that. I’ve never done that. I just try and do what I’m told to do and do it to the best of my abilities. Instead of dictating my terms, I often just try to make the performance the best it can be. What I don’t do and what I’ve never done is curate the direction of the narrative. I don’t pick opponents, but I love to tell stories. I didn’t pick Austin Theory but I certainly spoke from the heart [on RAW].”

Cena has now competed in at least one match every year since his WWE debut. In addition to his appearance on December 30th, he also appeared in June to commemorate his 20th year with the company. The US Championship match at WrestleMania will surely prove to be a turning point in the career of Austin Theory and may also prove to be one of the entertaining bouts of the year.
