Mia Yim signed with WWE in 2018 under the NXT brand, where she got her first taste of the WWE spotlight after her stand-out performance in the Mae Young Classic. The same could not be said when she was brought onto the main roster under the ring name Reckoning as part of the Retribution faction. Back in November 2022, Yim’s character was revamped, as she returned to the company following her release, and Mia Yim’s nameplate during entrances started featuring the name “Michin”.

Mia Yim recently appeared on Out of Character with Ryan Satin where she was asked to address the new “Michin” name. Mia responded by saying that “Michin” is just a nickname for now. She didn’t rule out the possibility that it could become her new name.

“That’s a great question because I don’t know [laughs.] I think it was initially a nickname. The whole time, I was told it was a nickname. The biggest thing that I want everyone to know is I’m okay with this name. Everything new, not everyone’s gonna like it. I get it, but I’m okay with this name. It’s better than Reckoning, so I’m not gonna complain about this name [laughs]. It’s a nickname now, and who knows, maybe in the future, it could transition to being my name. If it is, I’m okay with that too,”

Mia Yim went on to say that it would be a challenge for getting fans accustomed to the name Michin seeing how she went by Mia Yim ever since she stepped into the pro wrestling scene. She reiterated that Michin is just a nickname for now.

“I just want everyone to know, you don’t have to see the building on fire. It’s okay. It’s also a challenge for me to make it work. It might not work now because for 12 years, I’ve been Mia Yim, so of course something different, something new, people [aren’t] gonna like it]. ‘Why are you changing something that’s not broken? It’s like okay, but this may be just a challenge. Let me see if I can get you to love Michin just as much as you love Mia Yim, if that were the case. All in all, I think it’s a nickname for now,”

It looks like Mia Yim has finally laid rest to the debate among fans regarding the status of her in-ring name. She seems to be sticking to Mia Yim for now. For more updates stay tuned to Ringside News.

We’ll have to see what’s next for Mia Yim. She was brought in as an answer to the OC’s Rhea Ripley problem, but AJ Styles’ injury seems to have changed a lot of those plans as well. Keep checking back with Ringside News for more.
