WWE has a lot of moving pieces at all times, and external factors can sometimes get in the way. The company’s plan for a Hell in a Cell match at the Royal Rumble didn’t come to pass, and they booked a Mountain Dew Pitch Black match with Bray Wyatt and LA Knight instead. That unforgiving structure could return soon enough, because the company still has a WrestleMania card to announce.

Edge returned to WWE at the 2023 Royal Rumble, and he had a short stint in the Men’s Royal Rumble match. That return to the Rumble did not follow any on-screen build, because the Rated R Superstar was busy filming a series for Disney+. It turns out that WWE did have an idea if he was available for a longer build.

Ringside News was told by a tenured member of the creative team that “at some point, it was discussed” to move the planned Hell in a Cell match to the Royal Rumble, but Edge’s acting commitments for the Percy Jackson series got in the way.

It was confirmed to us that “Hell in a Cell was always planned for WrestleMania.” At this point, it is uncertain if they will still have that match, but it was in the planning stages.

Edge and Beth Phoenix appear to be heading for a mixed tag team match at Elimination Chamber against Judgment Day. That is also the final stop on the road to WrestleMania 39.

We will have to see how WWE continues their build on the road to WrestleMania 39. In the meantime, keep it tuned here at Ringside News for more.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
