Booker T last wrestled in a Royal Rumble match in 2012. Later that year, he announced his retirement from ring competition. However, Booker previously stated that he was expecting an invitation from WWE to compete in this year’s Royal Rumble event, which he has yet to receive. The WWE Hall of Famer and current NXT color commentator recently addressed why he did not declare himself for the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match.

Booker T explained on the latest episode of his Hall of Fame podcast why he couldn’t just declare himself in the Royal Rumble match like other WWE superstars. To clarify the rules of the Rumble he stated that one can only declare if they are an active member on the roster; retired alumni cannot declare themselves. He went on to explain that WWE must send the invitation and something more with it and that he is awaiting both of them.

I’ve seen people say, ‘man, why don’t you just declare yourself in the Rumble.’ Let me get you guys the rules of the Rumble. You can only declare if you’re an active member on the roster. You can’t be a retired alumni and declare yourself, okay? They have to actually send you an invitation, you know, and with that invitation it’s a little something else to go with it. We ain’t gonna talk about that. You know what I mean. So, I’m waiting on both of them.

Fans have been guessing about who would win the Men’s Royal Rumble battle for several weeks. Meanwhile, reports have stated that Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, and The Rock might win the fight. Ric Flair stated on a previous episode of the To Be The Man podcast that he wants Rhodes to win the Royal Rumble match.

As previously reported, Cody Rhodes recently announced his comeback to the ring at the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble 2023. Brandi Rhodes recently discussed her husband’s anticipated comeback and stated that he is well prepared. Brandi also went into detail on Cody Rhodes’ injury recovery, adding that it took a lot of effort, but the American Nightmare is determined to show the world his improvement.

Ric Flair also predicted the Women’s Royal Rumble Match winner and stated that he hopes Ripley wins the Royal Rumble Match. He also praised The Nightmare for her generosity and her credibility. Rhea Ripley has competed in three Women’s Royal Rumble matches since joining WWE, and last year, she entered at number 16 and lasted over 30 minutes until being eliminated by Charlotte Flair.

It remains to be seen who will ultimately dominate the Royal Rumble. Booker T might be there for commentating purposes, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll get to wrestle in San Antonio. Keep an eye on Ringside for the latest updates.
