After weeks of anticipation, Sasha Banks finally debuted at Wrestle Kingdom 17 under the name Mercedes Mone. She appeared on the show following KAIRI’s successful title defense. Mercedes would then attack KAIRI by grabbing her for the Gory Special. However, when she tried to spin her into the DDT, she failed to grab her head and the move looked botched.

Fans immediately called her out for the botched move on social media. However, Bryan Alvarez addressed the botch during the latest episode of his Wrestling Observer Live where he said that KAIRI was supposed to land on her feet but landed on her knees, making it hard for Mercedes to grab her head.

“What happened was she was gonna do the Gory Special and as she spun her around, KAIRI was supposed to land on her feet to take the DDT. And for whatever reason, and I actually have some conspiracy theories and heard mind you. For whatever reason, KAIRI spun around to her knees, and so there was no head to grab for a DDT and so Mercedes had to fall on her back and do the move. But it was not her fault, ok. So, I want to make that clear cause I’m a fair man,” said Bryan Alvarez.

Following the attack, Mercedes Mone challenged KAIRI to a title match at NJPW Battle In The Valley. This will be KAIRI’s first legitimate threat to her title, which will make the match more interesting. It will be interesting to see if Mercedes Mone will be able to defeat KAIRI.
