Beth Phoenix was one of the more dominant female performers during the Divas’ era in WWE. She was impressive as a 3-time WWE Women’s Champion and a Divas Champion, and involved in multiple outstanding moments before walking away from full-time competition. But Beth never said she was retired.

While speaking to Brandi Rhodes on 2 Lies and 1 Truth, Phoenix was asked if she might return to the ring. She mentioned as of now it’s unknown but also said retiring from that sport is embarrassing because it’s never true.

“Who knows these days. I say this every single time, it’s the most cliche thing, but never say never. Retirement in wrestling isn’t a thing, right? It’s embarrassing to say I’m retired because it’s never true.”

Phoenix gave her notice to WWE in September 2012 and decided to leave the company. She originally claimed that she had left to focus on her family, but in September 2019, Phoenix revealed that she had been really frustrated with where the women were at from company standpoint before the Divas’ division became the Women’s division in 2015.

Beth Phoenix hasn’t wrestled since the 2022 Royal Rumble, when she teamed with her husband Edge to defeat Maryse & The Miz. She has been on WWE television since, most notably at WWE Extreme Rules, when she got involved in Edge’s “I Quit” match against Finn Balor.

We’ll see what’s next for the Glamazon and The Rated R Superstar. It’s possible they will get their revenge on The Judgement Day for the Con-Chair-To that Phoenix received.

Do you agree with Phoenix that it’s embarrassing to say a wrestler is really retired? Sound off in the comments!
