WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels is undoubtedly one of the best in-ring performers to have ever graced a WWE ring. He was touted as Mr WrestleMania, and he truly lived up to the moniker.

However, as many fans know by now, Shawn Michaels back in the 90s was a completely different person compared to who he is now. Michaels’ backstage antics and insufferable personality is well-documented by now.

In fact, Vince McMahon claimed that Michaels owes his life to Triple H. While speaking on the WWE After the Bell Podcast, Shawn Michaels opened up about paying back Triple H when the latter suffered from a heart ailment.

Hunter was there for me at a time in my life when I really needed it, obviously it’s been 25 years since that time, but I guess for me it’s always been how could I pay him back for that?

For me, that’s what I feel like some of this was, this was a way for me to be there for him and that means a lot to me. I can get emotional, I’m all about the romance of this job. Even [taking over for Vince McMahon] has been pulling that out of him, another side of him that not many people get to see. To be able to be there for your friend in the best way you can, it was not easy by any stretch, the situation wasn’t great at all, but it was absolutely not a moment’s hesitation, it wasn’t even difficult to do. Again because of the love, the respect, the care that I have for him.”

I appreciate the pats on the back but my goodness, it was nothing more than what he’s done for me many many years ago. I was just happy to at least put a little dent in what he did for me in hopes that I helped him through a hard time in his life and that’s all that really matters to me.”

Shawn Michaels would eventually overcome his demons and turned a new leaf, becoming a born-again Christian and righting a lot of wrongs that he had made in the past. He credited Triple H for never abandoning him and helping him out throughout the years. Now both Triple H and Shawn Michaels are busy working in NXT, shaping up the Superstars of tomorrow.
