Liv Morgan got a standing ovation when she beat Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Money in the Bank premium live event on July 2, 2022. Morgan would go on to successfully defend her title against The Baddest Woman on the Planet at SummerSlam on July 30th, 2022.

Morgan was super over as champion until she ran it back with Rousey at SummerSlam. Morgan was booed heavily, even though she bested Rousey in their second meeting.

The 28-year-old provided her two cents on why the fans turned on her during a new interview with Ariel Helwani of BT Sport. It turns out that she expected this reaction.

“It was interesting. It was kind of something that I half-way expected because I feel like in a way the fans felt like I let them down. I feel like the ending of the [SummerSlam] match because of its controversy… they felt indifferent. They wanted me, I think, to get a clean, solid win.

“But I was facing the Baddest Woman on the Planet, who has years and years and years and years of mixed martial arts experience. I outlasted two armbars and I did my absolute best in that very moment. So, they weren’t happy with the conclusion of the match.

“But at the end of the day the referees’ decision is final and I’m still SmackDown Women’s Champion. And the only woman in WWE to beat Ronda Rousey twice [laugh].”

Morgan is set to defend her title against Shayna Baszler tomorrow night at Clash at the Castle. The SmackDown Women’s Champion has already learned few counter moves from Matt Riddle as well.
