Io Shirai found her way into the main roster at SummerSlam 2022. Her appearance marked an interesting change, as she teamed up with Bayley and Dakota Kai in an unlikely alliance.

Shirai also got an interesting name change. She is now known as Iyo Sky, it looks like she’s going up in the world of Monday Night Raw. The star won a few tag team matches and is likely to go nowhere but up. Sky recently explained why she thinks her name change is a good thing while speaking with Tokyo Sports.

Sky explained that with her name change, there’s more added meaning to it. The name is also easier for people to read because people mistake the ‘I‘ in her name for a lowercase ‘L‘.

I think that the image of the former ‘Shirai’ is conveyed in kanji to Japanese people, but that’s not the case in the United States. I think it’s a good name because the image is conveyed by adding ‘Sky’ there. Some people misread it because it looked like a lowercase letter L and O (lo), or it looked like a number. I think it became easier to understand with ‘IYO’ in all capital letters.

Sky previously thought about moving to Japan before she made her main roster debut in WWE SummerSlam. Apparently, Bayley also tried to form faction with Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky for many years before it really became a thing.
