Road Dogg and Billy Gunn were floundering on the roster before WWE decided to put them together as a team. The New Age Outlaws became one of the most important part of the Attitude Era.

WWE Executive Director Bruce Prichard revealed during A&E Biography special on D-Generation X that it was Shawn Michaels who pitched for Road Dogg and Billy Gunn to work together as a team.

“It was Shawn. I remember Shawn coming to us and going, ‘Hey, man, get these guys out of the silly gimmicks put them together as a tag team, Road Dogg and Rockabilly. That’ll be a hell of a team.”

In addition to winning the WWE Tag Team Championship on multiple occasions, the duo also had success with the the Hardcore and Intercontinental Championships.

Both Road Dogg and Billy Gunn were inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame as members of D-Generation X in 2019. Road Dogg is currently retired from professional wrestling. Billy Gunn, on the other hand, is with All Elite Wrestling these days.
