Will Ospreay challenged Kota Ibushi for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at NJPW’s Sakura Genesis event last year. Ospreay shocked the world after defeating Ibushi to become the new champion and cemented his legacy. Unfortunately, he was forced to relinquish it due to a neck injury.
The Aerial Assassin has come back with a vengeance since then and has already won championships since his return. He also had a match of the year contender with Orange Cassidy at the Forbidden Door event last month.
However, CM Punk and Bryan Danielson did not compete at the event as they are both currently injured. While speaking to Wrestle Inn, Will Ospreay claimed to have stolen the show that night. He then mocked CM Punk and Bryan Danielson forb being too fragile to show up at the event.
“Orange Cassidy had done like, a hell of a job I think everyone can agree with me on that. I can kind of say, hand on heart, like, I stole the show. I completely stole it … I know that was great. I know how good it was down to Orange, the referee, the camera crew, and everything. The crowd was amazing, I loved performing in Chicago.
On AEW’s side of theming it was built around your Bryan Danielsons, your CM Punks, and your Kennys, and, obviously, on our side of things, it was kind of built around [Kazuchika] Okada, Jay [White], and myself and just like, we delivered on our side of things … AEW sunk millions on those guys, they’re too fragile to show up.”
CM Punk is likely to return very soon as well. On the other hand, Bryan Danielson isn’t likely to come back anytime soon. We’ll have to see when both of them will return.
