Roman Reigns will defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on Friday Night SmackDown against Riddle. It will be his first televised title defense since unifying the championships at WrestleMania 38. Outside of couple of pay-per-view appearances, fans won’t be seeing much of The Tribal Chief on television this Summer.

That goes double for Monday Night Raw. As of right now, Roman Reigns is only scheduled for one appearance for the red brand. Roman is booked for the July 25 episode, which emanates from Madison Square Garden.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about the lack of a championship presence on Raw. Unless things change, WWE’s top champion is only scheduled to appear once throughout the Summer. That means Monday nights will get weeks or months at a time without a champion.

“The title’s kind of like… It’s not gone right now, but it’s not even on every pay-per-view and the champion’s not on TV all that often and he’s never on Raw. Almost never on Raw. The only time Reigns is going to be on Raw is the Raw from Madison Square Garden. That’s his only Raw booking. The only time the champion will be on Raw pretty much the whole Summer.”

There is always the possibility that Roman Reigns will drop the title at some point. The eventual build towards Cody Rhodes becoming the main challenger for the undisputed crown has been delayed due to his injury. It might make sense to put the championship on somebody else so the title has a regular television presence.

The WWE Universe will have to keep watching to see what happens next. As it stands, Raw has no top champion except for Reigns’ one scheduled appearance. With their top babyface injured, something might have to change.
